Intro: E.T. the Extra Terrestrial

E.T. Costume I made for my 3 year old son. Made out of pipe insulation, and alot of hot glue.

STEP 1: Building the Mask

I got pipe insulation from local hardware store, and used a few pool noodles I had in the garage. I cut the pipe insulation and noodle and began to build up the head. The helmet is a viking helmet from the dollar store I used as a base. I used a glue gun to stick together probably used 5 packs of hot glue on the mask!
Also added a piece of cardboard for mouth area- Precut E.T. Mouth as this is where my son will look out of the mask.

STEP 2: Mask Step 2

I continued building up mask with noodles. When I was finished, I found the edges to be a bit harsh, so I caulked them with some drywall putty. Dapp in the tube worked wonderfully.

STEP 3: Painting

Now the fun part. I painted E.T. Mask with acrylic paints.

STEP 4: Gloss

Added some Mod Podge with a gloss to give E.T. a slimey look, and seal the paint on the foam.

STEP 5: Feet

The feet are made out of an old pair of Crocs and some cardboard. When my son wears them, it actually makes him walk just like E.T.

STEP 6: Body

Body is sewn- with a pocket for a light as E.T.'s Heart.

STEP 7:

I am very happy with how E.T. turned out, and have had some great responses to him.

Awe I love ET! So cute and so very well done!
Next year you can slide the nose down, and put on a rain hat and be Meathead from Meatballs.
This the coolest home made mask I've ever seen. Awesome job.
That is too cute! Love seeing how you built the mask. :D
