Introduction: Easiest Masterpiece- Dutch Pour Painting

All supplies can be purchased at the dollar store to make this unique, no skill required masterpiece. Two paintings are shown here to illustrate the different possibilities with this technique.

Step 1: Pour Base Color

The first step is to cover your canvas in a solid color. For my painting I chose white. Do not skimp on paint here. You need enough for the other colors to "flow through". You want to pour the paint on and push it to the edges as opposed to brushing it on with a paintbrush.

Step 2: Choosing and Mixing Colors

For this step I recommend choosing colors based on a color wheel. To make an aesthetically pleasing painting I would suggest using complimentary colors (opposite on the color wheel), analogous colors (beside each other on the color wheel), or monochromatic colors (same color in different hues). You can google image a picture of a color wheel if you don't have one. You will want to experiment, but first start with no more than one ounce per color. I mixed pouring medium into mine to thin them out a bit in a ratio of 2 parts paint, 1 part pouring medium, but you can also thin with water. You want the paint to pour easily out of the container you are mixing it in, but not be dilute enough to be transparent. (I used ColorPour Pouring Medium from Walmart).

Step 3: The Fun Part- POUR!

This step is fool proof. Pour the paint in puddles, lines, whatever. The only trick is the different colors should be close together or touching. One you are done pouring the colors, add a little more of your base color around the edges of your other colors so it will have something easy to spread into.

Step 4: An Even More Fun Part: Create!

The next step involves blowing the paint out into whatever design you like. This can be done with a blow dryer, a straw, or your breath. Each will create a slightly different pattern but all will be equally beautiful.

Step 5: Finishing

Once it's completely dry (** wait at least 24 hours due to the thickness of the paint) you can leave as is, cover in resin to create a smooth clear finish, or use finishing spray to create a bit of shine. Then display and enjoy!
