Introduction: Easy Crayon Upgrade (Quick Hack to Keep Them From Rolling Away!)

Annoyed with crayons rolling away and wanting an easy solution, I was determined to come up with a quick and simple hack. By adding some sticky note paper to a crayon, they don't go too far -- no more chasing after them across the table or on the floor!

Supplies

  • Crayons
  • Sticky notes
  • Scissors

Step 1: Cut a Strip of Paper

To maximize the number of crayons I can upgrade with one sticky note, I cut thin strips (~1/4") vertically (one end with adhesive and the other end without).

Note: At 1/4" wide strips, a standard-size sticky note (3"x3") can support 12 crayons!

Step 2: Attach the Strip of Paper to the End of the Crayon

With the adhesive side facing up, I lined up the end of the crayon so it would be closer to the adhesive end.

Then I wrapped the long end of the strip to meet up with the adhesive and pressed them together, overlapping by the amount I wanted to keep (about 1/4").

Step 3: Trim Excess Paper

I cut off the excess paper.


Note: I trimmed off a tiny bit of the adhesive end as well to get both ends to match up.

Step 4: Press & Fold

To reinforce the adhesion, I pressed the two pieces together tightly with my thumb and pointer finger.

I also folded the piece over to one side (hoping that it helps with the adhesion).

I repeated these steps on the other crayons and they're ready to use and won't roll far away -- even on angled surfaces!
