Intro: Easy Pool-light

Hello,

i want to show you how to built an easy, but quite effective pool-light for about $20.

You'll need:
- canning-jar with rubber-seal (or just a regular good-sealing jar)
- 12V bright and flexible LED-stripe (about $10 from ebay)
- 9V and 2x 1,5V battery holder (= 12V)
- on/off switch
- cable
- shrinking-hose
- soldering iron and solder
- round piece of pipe, which fits in the jar (i used a piece of aluminum-pipe)
- small stone

1.) Sinking-Test
It was important for me, that the glass will sink on the ground of the pool.
I put different stones in the jar to figure out how much weight it would need to sink.

2.) Wiring
Solder the cables and the components together as shown on the circuit diagram.
(and don't forget the shrinking-hose, like i did.)

3.) glue the LED-stripe around the pipe

4.) put all things together in the jar

5.) done ;-)

Sorry for misspellings, english is not my native language ;)

Great idea.

Remember that no glass containers are allowed around the pool. I never listened.

Not bad Instructable for a non-native English speaker. I really liked it! I just ordered some of the led strips from Ebay and I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for posting!

Oh yeh, I forgot to mention that I will be using a motion switch (A ball that touches the power wires when the bottle is in the upright position. This way I can just keep the jars on their side until I'm ready to use them.

Very nice. Careful how much weight you add to the jar. Too much and it could shatter the jar when it hits the bottom. Then you have broken glass in the pool.

I would use a large plastic peanut butter or mayonnaise jar.
Never gonna happen.............. you would need to have a "lead denisty" type weight with a decent mass and a pretty aarow dynamic footprint for that to even be plausible.... I'd feel comfortable saying a jar the size he used, could probably be filled with lead and dropped in the pool just fine
Thanks for your comment!
Yes, too much weight could end awful.
But i decided to use a canning jar anyway, because they have a high weight and they are absolutely waterproof.
