Edible Chess Set
Intro: Edible Chess Set
In this Instructable, I will show you, how to create an edible chess set.
You will need:
The 3D-printed cookie cutters (the files are included in this Instructable)
- The 3D-printed stands (the files are included in this Instructable)
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Sugar
- Vanilla sugar
- Eggs
- Butter
- Cocoa
STEP 1: Print the Cookie Cutters
Simply download the files and print them on your 3D-Printer.
Remove the prints from your platform and remove excessive filament.
Before using the cutters you should clean them by hand.
STEP 2: Prepare the Dough
The dough is quite simple.
You will need:
- 90g Sugar
- 1 Teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 Egg
- 300g Flour
- 1 Bag of vanilla sugar
- 150g Butter
- 10g Cocoa
Mix everything except for the cocoa until you have a nice dough. Put half of the dough aside and add the cocoa to the rest of the dough. Mix that until the dough is evenly dark coloured.
STEP 3: Cut the Chessfigures
Roll out the doughts, until they are about 0,3-0,5cm thin.
Now you can take the cutters and cut the chessfigures. A normal chess set consists of:
- 2 Rooks
- 2 Knights
- 2 Bishops
- 1 King
- 1 Queen
- 8 Pawns
Keep in mind, that you will need one set of uncoloured and one set of dark chess figures. You may also want to bake some extra figures as some may brake while baking or playing.
If the dough should be too soft for processing, simply put it in the fridge for some time.
STEP 4: Bake the Figures
Put the figures onto a baking sheet covered with baking paper.
Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F) and bake the cookies for about 10 min. (Keep an eye on them while they bake)
After baking, let the cookies cool down and remove them from the sheet.
STEP 5: Print the Stands
To make your cookies playable, simply download and print the stand.
You will need as many stands, as you have chessfigures. That makes 32 stands for a normal set.
STEP 6: Have Fun Playing
Now that everything is finished, place the cookies in the stands and place them on your chessboard. Now you can start playing.
Recommended rule: Everytime you beat your opponents figure, you are allowed to eat it!

Thank you! I just googled it and both is possible although edible is the more common. So I changed it.

I usually try to make my prints as smooth as possible with sanding and acetone and I give my print a real cleaning before using them.
Still alive and no cancer so far ...

Super "sweet" project! Actually very creative though, I will definitely be making many sets of this!

Well, that pretty well solves the problem of pawn promotion. "Ha! Eighth rank! Pawn promotes to Queen!" "Sorry, Dude. <urp>"
