Introduction: Egg Shell Seed/Seedling Self Fertilizing Planting Pot
I was recently visiting a family friend's farm, when I saw them dumping their eggshells into their garden. Confused, I asked, "Why are you dumping your egg shells into your garden?". They responded telling me that they are a great fertilizer and are great for plants. This got me thinking, "What if you could make a pot that biodegrades, is cheap, and recycles would-be garbage". This got me thinking...
Supplies
Eggs
Dirt
Seed/Seedling
Thumb-Tack
Knife-Optional
Step 1: Collecting the Egg Shell
First I needed to source my egg shells. This was easy because I love eggs! I made myself a batch of four hard boiled eggs and used a knife to cut open the tops of the eggs. This part with the knife is optional, I just wanted to work with a smoother top. I then used an egg spoon and scooped out the egg. I then took a break, ate the egg, and went back to the egg shell. The last step was to poke holes with the thumb tack. This is the part where most would throw the egg shell in the trash. Once I got all the egg out of the shell, the process was done.
Step 2: Adding Dirt and Seed/Seedling
The first part of this step is fairly simple. Depending on what plant you are planting, your soil you should add can change. I just went and found a patch of land in our yard where the sun was on it around half the day and the ground was easy to dig in. I then planted two plants around three feet apart to test if it actually worked.
Step 3: Finished Product
I was confident that its intended purpose will work. Here are the features of my final product:
Recycles egg shells
Helps fertilize the plants as they grow
Makes planting seeds and seedlings easy
Easy to spread them out easily
Cheap and easy to make
