Introduction: Email on Non-internet Phone
Ever seen those cool phones with the internet? Yeah I thought so. Ever wish you had one? Now you can I have a Nokia 1600 (very basic phone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_1600) with net 10 prepaid, yet I still can acess my emails, or even get free ($0.00 + 0%tax) instant alerts when I get an email.
Step 1: Determine Email Address
Most phone companies have a dedicated email address for each phone that automatically forwards to your text messages (sms). All you need to do is determine that email.
For example mine is 10digphone#@cingularme.com where 10digphone# is replaced with your phone number.
Others include
T-Mobile: phonenumber@tmomail.net
Virgin Mobile: phonenumber@vmobl.com
Cingular: phonenumber@cingularme.com
Sprint: phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com
Verizon: phonenumber@vtext.com
Nextel: phonenumber@messaging.nextel.com
Net 10: phonenumber@cingularme.com
where phonenumber = your 10 digit phone number
If yours is not listed a quick google should do it.
Step 2: Set Up Your Email
I'm sure there is a way to do this with other email services, but only my Gmail is important enough for me to go to my phone.
Log into your email and go to settings (top right corner for gmail)
Go to pop and forwarding
Enter your email account
Save changes
Step 3: Test It Out
Log out and back in to your mail
Send yourself an email to make sure it worked. (to your gmail)
Your phone will ring/vibrate/selfdestruct/killyou
If you are cheap like me, you go to your computer, check your email and delete the message on your phone. This way you don't get charged anything, but you know when you get an email.
The end
Please rate and leave a question or comment
Thanks and good luck sticking it to the man!

you can also have your phone alert you via picture messages(if you can get them).
And an easy way to find out your cell's "email-address" is to send a text/pic text to your email!
Picture texts are generally longer(1,000 characters), as well as e-mails(which are infinite)! =]

Since cingular is no more, the correct addresss would be your-number @txt.att.net
Reply 13 years ago on Introduction
The odd thing is that it still works with the cingular adress

Thanks, LinuxH4x0r! My Verizon XV7600 received texts from these sources: phonenumber@vtext.com 10digitnumber@teleflip.com ("works for everything") These did not work for my Verizon: (phonenumber)@vzwpix.com ("verizon actually works better if its..." - nope) CountryCodeAreaCodeExchangeNumber@vzwtxt.com 10dig#@uscc.textmsg.com ("works for everything" - nope) FYI. ************** Now, does anyone know a free/low-cost way to send email via phone calls? Attachments, anyone? Don't want to pay Verizon the damned $70/month for a privilege I use once a month!

Hey, nice instructable
I live in New Zealand and my mobile provider is telecom, Any ideas on my dedicated email address (if there is one). I've looked on http://www.notepage.net/smtp.htm and can't see it there. Thanks
KSM

I'll look. How many digits is your phone number? 10, 11, or 12? I know that some telecom providers don't have this service, but try anyways
Reply 14 years ago on Introduction
It has 021 or 027 depending on your provider then 7 unique digits so 10 then. Thanks KSM
