I made my own DIY epoxy toilet seat with resin. Why, you ask? Well I thought it would be a fun challenge to try and I’ve been wanting to experiment with resin crafts for a while so this seemed like a good place to start. f you’re looking to add a unique touch to your bathroom, creating a toilet seat with epoxy resin and coins or dollars embedded in it can be a fun and creative project. This is a great way to use up foreign coins from a trip or play a prank on a friend.

Supplies

Silicone toilet seat mold. I used this one
Epoxy resin kit
Coins or paper money
Gloves
Mixing cups
Stirring sticks
Release agent (like cooking spray)
Sandpaper
Drill
Screws

Step 1: Prepare the Toilet Seat Mold

I bought this silicone toilet seat mold off of Amazon. You may want to spray a little bit of releasing agent onto the mold so that the finished seat removes easily once its hardened. The mold I bought was very flexible so that wasn’t an issue.

Step 2: Prepare the Money

Select the coins or currency you want to embed in the resin. Clean the coins or currency with soap and water to remove any dirt or grime. Dry them thoroughly before moving on to the next step.

Step 3: Mix the Resin

Follow the instructions on the epoxy resin kit to mix the resin and hardener. The brand I used was a 1:1 mix, meaning equal parts of the resin and hardener are mixed together. Stir the mixture well until it is completely blended. Be sure to wear gloves and work in a well-ventilated area while mixing the resin.

Step 4: Add Coins and Paper Money

Pour a small amount of the mixed resin into the toilet seat. Place the coins or currency into the resin, making sure they are spaced evenly apart. Once you have placed all the coins, pour the remaining resin on top, covering the coins completely.

Step 5: Pour the Epoxy Resin Into the Mold

Let the first layer dry and add more. Mix more resin according the instructions and pour it into the mold, filling it to the desired level. Only pour small amounts at a time. Fill about 1/4 inch thickness and let it cure a few hours before adding more. Doing several thinner layers rather than one thick one will help it dry better and faster.

Step 6: Allow Resin to Cure

Allow the resin to cure for at least 24 hours. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions for curing time. Once the resin has cured, it should be hard and durable.
