Fogcatchers are structures designed to catch drops of water in the meshes that compose them. The lack of surface water, groundwater and lack of rain, in various habitable places of our planet, has led to the manufacture of these systems to provide water for humans and various activities such as agriculture.

The capture of water from fog with lots of instruments is based on the existence of horizontal rain, which occurs when there is enough moisture in the atmosphere that when hitting a mountain range, including trees that intercept it, drops accumulate and then precipitate the floor. It is common that the leaves of the trees present higher humidity even without occurrence of precipitation events when horizontal rain occurs.


In order to maintain the project standing, we use a 1 meter wood as support. This will be screwed on both sides, joining it with the boards so that the mesh stretches and is not wrinkled.

In addition we use two smaller tables, which we put one on each side so you can keep the project stable.


We have two wooden boards that are used to support the frame that will hold the raschel mesh.

Then we sew the edges of the mesh so that it can be joined with the boards.

After that, with the nylon thread the mesh and the boards are joined in several points so that both do not come loose or stay hanging.

Step 3: PVC TUBE

We cut the PVC tube horizontally and then make a small egg through which the water passes when it falls. Then it will be placed in the lower part of the mesh, tied with nylon to the frame.


Finally, we build a homemade filter placing the cotton in the bottom of a bucket, then the small, medium and large gravel in that order, and finally in the upper part the fine sand.
