Introduction: Faux Fireplace
I love decorating for Christmas, and about 11 years ago had a place with no fireplace. Both of my children were young, and I wanted a place to hang their stockings besides on the back of the front door! :-) I had seen a cheesy looking cardboard fireplace kit I believe at Party City, and decided, I could make one that looked a lot better than theirs! So, I made one. I hope you enjoy!
Step 1: Step 1: Assembly
Assemble cardboard boxes for your layout. I had some Priority shipping boxes left over from selling stuff on Ebay, and I turned the boxes inside out, and used tape in between the pieces to keep it together. As you can see I used the middle of a project board for the center of the fireplace.
Step 2: Step 2: Bonding It Together
Take a can of foam insulation and spray between each box so that it will "glue" them together for a stronger hold. Then, after the foam is dry, take a putty knife and scrape the excess off.
Step 3: Step 3: Paint!
Spray the entire thing red... This may take a couple of coats.
Step 4: Step 4: More Paint!
Paint the middle black, and paint your foam insulation gray to make it look like cement,
Step 5: Step 5: Adding Your Own Flare
Add whatever décor you would like, I made this for Christmas for my kids stockings :-) Because this is cardboard, and not very strong, I used hooks in the wood paneling to anchor strings for the stockings.
Step 6: Step 6: Adding Fire
I found a picture of a fireplace fire, and printed it off my computer. Then just used a glue stick to keep it on.
Step 7: Step 7: Picture Fun
Add your kids for a great Christmas Card, or even yourself!
