Introduction: Ferret Scarf
I made this scarf for a friend in Illinois who owns several ferrets. I designed this myself and didn't write much of my process down. (I got carried away.)
The yarn I used was "Bernat's Soft Boucle", but you could use and yarn that looks like a ferret's fur. For the body,(the scarf part)I cast on 15 stitches and continued a k1,p1 pattern thoughout every row untill I got my desited length.
The legs I made seperatly with 4 or 5 cast on and contuned the rectangle for about two inches(changing yarn color for the fur patterns of course) and used the yarn ends to "sew each to the body. (2 on each end).
The head I started over several times. I sort of faollowed a pattern for some other little knitted stuffed animal's face and it kind of work, but I have to tweak it silghtly to achieve ferretness.
The tail I braided

Have they developed a vaccine for the tumors they seem to all get as they age?

Ferrets are legal in Texas and in Illinois apparently.

And Georgia, or some parts of Georgia, at least. Ferrets are definitely legal in Illinois, but you have to get a license for them, which doesn't cost anything.

Hi there. I just love your ferret scarf. I have attempted to make one myself but I am having a lot of difficulty with the head. Is there any way you can figure out the pattern including the ears you used and help me out? It would be so appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you.

Honestly, I don't know if I could come up with a pattern for the head and ears, because I was kinda making it up as I went along. I didn't work in the round and I increased/decreased the number of stitches on 2 small panels to create the shaping effect once the 2 pieces were hand sewn together. The ears were done similarly and sewn to the assembled head.
If the desired shape was not being achieved, I just unraveled and tried again.
I'm sorry I can't be more specific, the scarf was merely a gift, so a pattern for reproduction was not in the plan. =)

He's so cute! The colors are just like the real one. I love the idea of having the ferret on one shoulder, the head of the scarf on the other. ;)

That is really, really adorable! Do you think you could send me a vague description of what you did here? I'd like to try something like it at some point, but I'm not really sure where to begin. Oh yeah, and I've seen them at a pet store in Indiana as well, so I have to assume they're legal here too.

This is one of my favorites. I really like that idea and I really think the scarf looks like the ferret. You are very good.

Nicely done! Matches the hat nicely, and looks quite flattering on you. +1 FTW! By the way, what is the full text of that lascivious banner behind the ferrets in the last picture; and where on Earth did you get it? (P.S. There is a slight chance that this comment was entirely about working the word lascivious into casual conversation. Sorry, big words make me all smooshy on the inside. )

Acttually, the lady in the photo is the friend in Illinois I made the scarf for. I have no idea where she got that poster, but it is pretty great.

i have a ferret *sigh* wish i could knit. so i could do this. but on a positive not i think the only thing that could make that better would be having a pocket on the end to carry your furry little friend out in public just to see the reaction
