Fertilizer Bio Filter

The fertilizer Bio Filter is a natural filtration system that uses algae to absorb fertilizer from streams and creaks to prevent algae blooms. This is a prototype. A real model would take up the entire width of a stream.

A transparent container

An air pump

Algae

A source of light energy

Water

Step 1: Set Up a Container to Grow Algae

Fill up the transparent container with water and place it in a sunny area. Add the algae into the container and use the pump to supply it with air.

Step 2: Grow Algae on the Filter Sheets

Leave the filter sheets in the algae growing container until they are covered in algae.

Step 3: Insert the Filter Sheets Back Into the Filter

Slide each filter sheet into their slot in the filter.
