Introduction: Fix MadCatz MOUS 9 Scroll Wheel Noise
If you are willing to fix the noise of the scroll wheel, i assume you know what you are doing.
I take no responsibility for anything you do, follow this tutorial on your own risk, i am just here to show you how it works.
Just a warning before you start, putting the plastic top back on can be very tricky and it took me about half an hour to place it so it closes properly but it is not impossible.
So let's get started:
Step 1: Disassembling Your MadCatz Mouse 9
Follow this video on youtube Until 2.57 Minutes,as we don't need to go further if you don't know how to disassemble your mouse.
It seems to be a different model but as the screw spots are the same as on our device, you can follow this video.
Step 2: Further Disassembly
The first chip is connected to the main big chip by pins, so be careful when lifting it up.
(The tips in the images are misplaced in preview, i don't know why but if you click on the pictures they should be placed correctly.)
Step 3: Oiling the Noise Away
Now just oil the place where the little spring goes in but be sure not to put too much or less of oil in it.
The spring should be oiled enough but not drown in oil so it swaps over.
Step 4: Testing
Put the spring back in its place now as well as the black scroll wheel case as you can see in the picture.
Test if it still makes noise by gently pressing the part marked in the picture. If so, put some more oil in it until the spring is comletely covered in oil.
Step 5: Reassembly
The reassembly is just the assembly in reverse so just follow the tutorial backwards.
I've made this little Tutuorial as i assume everyone owning this product has the same issue so you guys can fix your hardware as i've found no tutorial for this anywhere on the internet and the noise was really annoying, especially when studying in a library.
Enjoy your MOUSE 9 v2.0 :)

Question 3 years ago on Step 1
My Rat7 Contagion mouse wheel doesn't work properly any more. Do you know the manufacturer and the product number of the wheel's sensor?
Answer 3 years ago
Unfirtunately no, but you can disassemble the mouse and look if you find a similar part in for example aliexpress.com (they have almost any electric component). just look for "mouse wheel encoder" there, i am sure you will find an equivalent

That is a great mouse. It is good that you were able to repair it. Thanks for posting, this was really interesting.
