Introduction: Fix Troy-bilt Pony Mower Belt Guards for Good!

Tired of replacing broken and cracked Troy-bilt Pony tractor belt guards?

Step 1:

They can barely survive through a single season, without cracking. Also, they are a PITA to replace.

Here's a solution that works!

We need to soften or eliminate the massive vibration that these belt guards experience wile the tractor is running.

They crack and break because they are made from thin brittle metal. And, they sit atop a constantly vibrating mower deck.

After purchasing; (two new belt guards, one small roll of automotive gasket cork, six 0.25" x 2" bolts, 12 washers, 6 lock washers and six nuts), perform the following steps..

First, drop the deck (always a fun job).

Then remove the old broken (or not yet broken) belt guards.

Now, drill out the six holes so that you can slip a 0.25"X2" bolt through the deck.

Next take one of the new belt guards and lay it on the gasket cork.

Trace the profile onto the cork. Use an X-acto knife to cut out four of these profiles. These will be used as baffles between the belt guard and the mower deck. They will virtually eliminate the vibrations that cause these guards to crack.

Now place the belt guards onto the deck with the baffles. Feed the bolts with washer from below the deck up to the top and through the baffle and belt guard.
