Introduction: Floating Invisible Soccer Ball Display

About: Husband, Father, Mechanical Engineer. Why pay anyone to do something you can do for yourself.

Do you have a cool soccer ball that you want to display? Want it to look like it's floating? Got a wire coat hanger? This is the Instructable you've been looking for.

Supplies

1 - wire coat hanger

3 - Wall anchors

Some blue tape

Step 1: Bend the Coat Hanger Into a Hoop

I used a gallon paint can and twisted the wire until it was just tight enough that it could still be removed. In retrospect I would recommend making the hoop a little less than the diameter of the ball. Just enough that the ball doesn't fall thru.

Bend the hook into a triangle. Three points ensures the top can't slip when attached to the wall.

Step 2: Test Run

Bend the top so the hoop faces up. The weight of the ball will pull it down. My hoop was too small and the ball nearly rolls out. I recommend using at least 10 gauge wire. This holds a soccer ball. Heavier gauge wire would be required for a basketball.

Step 3: Paint the Hoop

Painting the hoop a color similar to your ball adds to its invisibility.

Step 4: Trace Hole Pattern

I used tape to trace and transfer my hole locations.

Step 5: Transfer Hole Pattern

Use the tape to determine where your holes will be located. Based on your Test Run place the tape.

Step 6: Mount Hoop

I used wall anchors to make sure everything stays put.

Step 7: Add Your Ball

Not to pat myself on the back, but how great does that look?!? Full disclosure, because of the small diameter of the hoop I had to tape the ball on to make sure it didn't roll out.

Postmortum: I highly recommend 10 gauge wire and keeping the hoop diameter as wide as possible.
