Introduction: Foam Board Dice
Everyone's familiar with playing dice, but these are not for rolling, they're for displaying! Great for anybody who is a fan of gambling, especially when traveling to Las Vegas, these paper crafted dice are now within reach!
Step 1: Materials
As always, you are going to need certain materials to make these projects. For these paper dice, you will need...
- foam board
- X-acto knife
- buttons, gems, pom poms
- paint
- glue (you can use a hot glue gun, tacky glue or E6000 shown in the image above)
- paint brushes
- Cube pattern (for future reference, I've added some other patterns of the classic platonic shapes, though the main focus here is the cube)
Step 2: Draw Out the Sides
First, grab a marker and use your ruler to measure out 4 x 4 inch squares on your foam board. Remember, a cube has 6 sides, so make sure your draw out that number of sides for your dice.
Step 3: Cut Out the Sides
Once that part is done, carefully cut out the sides with an X-acto knife. Using an X-acto knife works best since it easily cuts into the foam.
Step 4: Add the Dots
You can add the dots to the sides in a variety of ways. You can use pom poms, buttons, gems, or you can even hand paint them. Here, I used black buttons. If you're unsure about how to place the buttons on the sides, you can refer to a real rolling die for dot placement.
Step 5: Glue the Cube
Now, once the glue is dry, you're going to use more glue to put the cube together and make the die.
Step 6: Complete!
Now, your dice are ready to display! You can use your favorite colors of paint if you plan on making more to decorate the table. Here, I have painted a red die, besides leaving the foam board white for the white die. For the red die, I used red paint for the sides and beige colored buttons painted in white for the dots.
