Using pocket holes assemble your base adding blocking in the corners and braces to add strength.

Step 1: Build the Top

Join your table top boards using pocket holes making sure it is joined and braced to be a level flat surface. The 2x10 will be in the middle of the four 2x8s (remember to cut to length)

Step 2: Plane and Sand

Plane flat, and lightly sand.

Step 3: Distress, and Add Pegging

Distress the table top with random hammer marks, screw indentions, worm holes and wear the outer edges with a chisel to give it a weathered look. Create fake cracks on several end boards with the chisel.
Add the pegging look by drilling 1/2in holes just shy of the depth of 1/2in wood plugs. Paste with glue and hammer in, two to the 8x2s and three to the 10x2. Set these several inches in from the ends. You can sand flat once the glue has set.

Step 5: Stain, Paint, and Seal

Stain the top a preferred color, shown is Minwax Dark Walnut.
Paint the bottom with a white flat paint, not hitting every spot is ok as it will give it a distressed look.
Seal with either a wax paste or polyurethane.

Step 6: Attach the Top

Using either L brackets, or pocket holes, connect the top to the base.
