T989 disassembly

Step 1: Remove the Back Cover and Battery

Grasp the back panel by the slot on the upper right of the panel.

Peel the panel away from the device.

On the lower right of the battery is a small area used to grip and remove it from the device.

Step 2: Rear Housing Screws

There are Six 4.0mm PH00 Philips screws securing the rear housing to the device.

Step 3: Remove Rear Housing

Starting on the narrow side of the device, inside the battery compartment, work an opening tool between the two halves of the housing.

Grasp the thin edge when there is enough to hold.

Move the opening tool to the outside of the device and work the tool towards the bottom.

Work the tool around to the other side of the device and work toward the top.

Be aware of the three tabs at the top of the rear housing.

When the lower portion of the rear housing is able to be lifted, slide it toward the bottom of the device.

Step 4: Rear Housing Assembly

There are several antennas inside the rear housing

The loudspeaker is located at the bottom of the rear housing.

Step 5: Loudspeaker Removal

To remove the loudspeaker, an opening tool should be inserted under the tab at the left side and gently twist the tool.

Pull the loudspeaker away from the rear housing.

Step 6: Unplug Navigation and Display FPC Connectors

The navigation flex header should be disconnected from the socket at the bottom of the board.

Use an opening tool to unplug the display connector from the left edge of the board.

Step 7: Vibrate/Ear Speaker Flex

Unplug the brown flex from the logicboard.

Lever the ear speaker from the housing.

Insert a thin tool under the vibrate motor and lever off of its adhesive.

Insert a thin tool into the audio port and lever the assembly away from the housing.

Step 8: Front Camera FPC Connector

Remove the 3.9mm Philips screw from the upper right corner.

Unplug the front camera sensor flex from the socket.

Step 9: Free the Rear Camera

Lever the rear camera from the housing.

Do not attempt to remove the camera at this time as it is attached to the underside of the logicboard.

Step 10: Remove the Logicboard

Use a plastic opening tool to lift the board from the housing.

Observe any flex cables or obstructions that may impede the removal of the board.

When the top portion of the board is free from the housing it can be moved away from the bottom of the device.

Step 11: Logicboard

The logicboard is double sided and tightly packed with components.

Care must be taken when working on or around this piece.

The charge port has seven leads and is attached to the underside of the device.

There is a microphone in close proximity to the charge port and care must be taken when replacing the port.

A secondary microphone is next to the rear camera's ZIF connector.

Step 12: Rear Camera

Lift the actuating flap on the ZIF connector.

Release the camera controller board from the logicboard.

Slide the flex out of the ZIF connector.

Step 13: Front Camera Sensor Flex

Remove the retaining bracket from the front camera/sensor flex.

Use a plastic opening tool to lift the sensor board from the housing.
