Geometric Resin Shapes/Paper Weights

I have never worked with resin before and really wanted to try it. One day on amazon I found some cool geometric molds and decided that would be a good project to get started with resin. I added all kinds of things to them as this was mostly an experiment. I used dye, glitter, rocks, flowers, and ink.

Step 1: Tools & Materials

Resin

sticks to stir the resin

measuring or medicine cups

Step 2: Mixing the Resin

The resins I used in this video take equal parts of hardener and resin. I poured them into two medicine cups then I poured those into a bigger cup to mix them together. Make sure to scrape the sides to get all the resin mix so that it cures properly. I mixed it for three mins.

Step 3: Adding Dyes and Stuff

Once I mixed the resin all the way I added a little bit of dye (less is more!!!!!) and continued to mix for a few more seconds. I then poured the resin into the mold and held it high to try to release some air bubbles.

You can use a lighter to release more bubbles but it didnt really help me.

When I poured over the rose it kept wanting to float so I eventually tapes it down.

Adding Ink to the resin was the coolest part for me. I mixed up my last batch of resin and poured it into the mold. i then took small bottles of in squirted little drops into the resin. I alternated colors and after every drop of color I added I would add white in the middle of the drop. This was to push down the ink as far as possible.

I didnt think it was working and added too much ink so it started to over flow. Again less is more.

Step 4: Enjoy Your Geometric Shapes/Paper Weights

Overall I loved how these turned out and will probably use the ones I have left as paper weights. I gave a few of these as gifts to family members. The ink one was for sure my favorite and it was just a fun project all around. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below.

have fun! tips: almost all flowers end up bleached or yellowish see through b/c the chemicals & heat while epoxy is curing. dried or fresh doesn't matter. I found a way flowers will keep color but takes time!. take mod podge dilute with water (try 2 pock flowers with thicker petals) cut flower stem so fits in a straw and insert. you want 2 apply 3x coats while allowing 2 dry between each coat . you will need a extra paint brush with just water 2 seperate petals & make sure they don't get all stuck together. depends on flower but I apply to fresh flowers. allow 2 dry over night b/c with petals. the next day apply 3x more coats of mod podge. thus time only a bit dilute you will figure out what mix you need as long as flowers looks hard. it may look transparent if was a thin petal but will at least keep color in epoxy....

amazing work! tip I learned from an old mold maker is to make a small slice in the rose stem or base & glue a BB or the simplest solution stick a nail into the flowers stem it's hidden and weighted down

I've never worked with resin before and found your video interesting. I liked the idea of putting a real rose in the resin but didn't see how that one turned out. Is it possible for you to add a photo or two with the rose?
