Introduction: Get Rid of Pigeons and Other Annoying Birds
Keep pigeons away from your balcony without hurting them. What you need is just the following material
- an envelope like those used for gifts, with a reflecting surface
- a cutter and a ruler (or scissors)
- some alcohol
- double-sided tape
We are going to cut strips of the material of which the envelope is made and stick them to any support you can find on your balcony.
Step 1: Prepare the Surface
Carefully clean the surface to which you want to attach a strip of the reflecting envelope using alcohol. Stick a piece of double-sided tape to the support.
Step 2: Attach a Strip of Reflecting Material
Remove the top protection of the double-sided tape and stick to it a strip of the reflecting material of the envelope, leaving some extra length on one side. Attach a piece of tape to this side and fix the strip. This way the strip is securely attached to the balcony.
Step 3: Leave the Strip Fluctuate Under the Wind
You are done! Leave the long side of the strip fluctuate due to the wind. The flashes of light produced by the sun reflecting on the surfaces and the fact that it is moving will keep away any sort of bird from your balcony.
If the wind is too strong, you can attach a piece of tape to the end of the strip to make it a little bit heavier.
I successfully tested such a system and it works, indeed!

After three weeks without pigeons, I found that you may need to tune the position of the strips depending on where you find manure. With time, pigeons find places on the balcony where they are not too disturbed by the strips, hence they start populating specific areas. You can easily add strips close to those places to avoid that.
