Introduction: Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie!

Makes enough dough for 32 inch pizza pan size cookie plus an additional 3 dozen normal size cookies or 6 or 7 dozen normal cookies. This recipe is easily scalable by half if you desire less cookies.

Prep Time: 30 Minutes Mixing + 2 Hour Cooling

Bake Time: Big Cookie – 25 Minutes

Regular Size – 9 Minutes

Baking Temp: 350 Degrees Fahrenheit or 177 Degrees Celsius

Step 1: Ingredients/Materials

Mixer Ingredients

  • 2 Cups of Butter*
  • 2 Cups of Brown Sugar (well packed cups)
  • 2 Cups of White Sugar
  • 4 Eggs*
  • 2 Teaspoons of Vanilla

Dry Ingredients

  • 5 Cups of Oatmeal
  • 4 Cups of Flour
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt
  • 2 Teaspoons of Baking Powder
  • 2 Teaspoons of Baking Soda

Tasty Ingredients

  • 24 Ounces of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (or can be any kind you want!)
  • 2 Milky Way Bars
  • 3 Cups of Chopped Walnuts (Optional)

Materials Needed:

  • Electric Mixer (Can be do without, but it is a workout!)
  • Blender or Coffee Grinder
  • 1 Large Mixing bowl
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Spatula
  • 1 32" Pizza Pan or 2 cookie sheets
  • Knife and cutting board

*PROTIP – Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature. Let Eggs and Butter sit out for a few hours before you begin baking. If you wish to start quickly, soak eggs and butter in warm water for 10 minutes before starting.

Step 2: Electric Mixer

  1. Cream the butter – Place the butter in your mixer and set it to a medium speed for about 5 minutes.
  2. Add Sugars – After butter has had sufficient time to cream, slowly begin to add the sugars. Slowly add 1 cup every 2 minutes while keeping the mixer running. If mixing by hand allow for additional time.
  3. Add Eggs – Now it is time to add the eggs to our dough. Add one egg every minute or so to allow each one to mix in evenly
  4. Add Vanilla – After your eggs are integrated to the dough, add the Vanilla and mix for another minute or two.

Step 3: Intermission

It is now time to let the mixer or your arm rest. Retrieve a large mixing bowl as we will now be mixing the dry ingredients together.

Step 4: Dry Ingredients

  1. Take the 5 Cups of Oatmeal and powderize it in the blender by pulsing it repeatedly.
  2. Add all the dry ingredients to a large mixing bowl (separate from the butter and sugar mixture!)
  3. Mix the dry ingredients together thoroughly by hand using a spatula or spoon.
  4. One cup at a time, add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture and mix after every addition. This is best done by hand as most electric mixers will not be able to handle the quantity or thickness of the dough at this point.
  5. Chop up Milky Way bars as fine as you can manage.
  6. Add Chocolate Chips, Milky Way pieces, and Walnuts and mix by hand

Step 5: Second Intermission

It is time to let the dough rest. Cover your bowl with plastic wrap or place in a bag. Then place dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours before baking.

Step 6: Baking

  1. Make sure your oven rack is as close to the middle as possible and then preheat your oven to 350 degrees F or 177 degrees C.
  2. Grease up your pizza pan and/or cookie sheets
  3. Prepare Your Cookie
    • Giant Cookie: Place your dough on the pizza pan at a thickness of 1⁄2 an inch

      (1.5 cm) and leave about 2.5 inches (6 cm) around edge of the pan bare as the cookie will expand when baking.

    • Regular Cookies: Roll dough into balls approximately 1.5 inches (4cm) in diameter and place on greased cookie sheets 2 inches (5cm) apart. Also leave 1 inch (2.5cm) space from edge.

  4. Place Your Cookie in the Oven
    • Giant Cookie: Bake for approximately 25 minutes. Cookie should appear slightly golden brown around the edge. It will look unbaked. Let sit in pizza pan till cool.
    • Regular Cookies: Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes. Cookies will be soft and appear slightly golden brown and will look unbaked. They will still be soft so allow them to cool for 2 minutes on the cookie sheet before removing them. Cookies will be fragile so using a thin spatula to remove them is best.

Step 7: Enjoy the Cookie!

After the cookie has cooled you can add frosting for fun effects or a special occasion.

It is important that you make this recipe your own. Try changing the chocolate chips to peanutbutter chips or even M&Ms.
