Introduction: Gold Cement Earring and Necklace

It turns out that cement can be used to create jewelry! A creative solution for those who prefer uncommon jewelry is Gold Cement Earrings and Necklace. It looks stylish and cool. You just have to make a pendant, purchase accessories for jewelry, and a spectacular DIY Set is ready!

Supplies

    • White Cement - 2-3 tablespoons
    • 24k Gold Leafs
    • Plastic straw, medium diameter
    • Cardboard
    • Adhesive tape
    • Sandpaper
    • Super Glue
    • Needle nose pliers
    • Brush
    • Ruler
    • Pencil
    • Cutter

    Accessories:

    • 50 cm chain
    • 3 eye pins
    • 1 small jump ring, gold plated silver
    • 1 bigger jump ring, gold plated silver
    • 1 lobster clasp, gold plated silver
    • 2 earring findings, gold plated silver

    Step 1: Pendant Mold

    We will use non-corrugated, heavy cardboard to make our mold. Cut out a triangle, to use as a base. Then cut a strip - 1 cm width. Mark the size that you need to make the borders, and trim. Coate the inner sides with tape. Try to avoid wrinkles on tape. Shape the mold with your hands.

    Join the sides and stick them together on the outside, with packaging tape. Add packaging tape on every folded edge of the mold. We need to keep the cement inside the mold) Insert an eye pin into the top of the mold that we made.

    Step 2: Earrings Mold

    Take a plastic straw and cut two small pieces. I use a little bigger in diameter straw than a classic one. Secure it vertically to the cardboard with tape. I forgot to cover cardboard with the tape (you can see in the picture that cardboard, used as a base layer, became wet), but it really doesn't much matter.

    Step 3: Prepare the Mixture and Fill the Molds

    The desired texture looks like thick yogurt. Stir the concrete thoroughly, be sure no lumps remain in the mixture. When your mixture is ready, pour a small amount in the mold. Shake it a little to make the layer even.

    Your necklace pendant already has a hook, now insert the eye pins into earrings pendants.

    TIP: It's more easy to fill the mold if you will use a syringe

    Step 4: Leave the Cement to Dry for About 24 Hours

    Use your cutter to make slits in the cardboard, then pull and remove your pendant from the mold. To take out the cylinder pendants, just carefully push from the bottom using pencil end.

    Air bubbles! Don't panic... them can vary from piece to piece - due to the handmade process, it's your sign :)

    Step 5: Smooth & Polish Edges

    Use sandpaper to make the edges and corners of the triangle pendant more smooth and polished. The cylinders actually need polish only on the top and bottom surface.

    I use very fine sandpaper - 240 grit

    Clean the shapes with a moist paper towel from dust.

    Step 6: Decorate the Necklace Pendant With 24k Gold Leaf

    I buy 24k gold leaves in the Cake Decorating Shop. It's edible, and you can use it for adding shimmer and sparkle to your cake decorating. But today, we will use it in a different way.

    Tape the borders and apply a thin layer of super glue. Take a brush and very carefully tear off a piece of leave. Be gentle here, you can easily tear your gold leaf if you press too hard.

    Once your gold leaf is in place, you’ll need to smooth it down to attach it to the pendant. With light pressure and soft strokes, brush your leaf onto it. Wait for complete drying, brush all unglued parts, and remove the tape.

    Step 7: Decorate the Earrings Pendants With 24k Gold Leaf

    For the earrings pendants, do the same as in the previous step. Glue with Super Glue, apply the gold leaf with a brush and let it dry.

    Step 8: Attach a Pendant to an Earring Hook

    Open the ring on the earring hook, attach it to the eye pin, and close it up.

    Step 9: Assembling the Necklace

    Open the ring on the lobster clasp and attach it to the one end of the chain, and close it up. Attach to another end of the chain one more jump ring.

    Our chain is ready, it remains to join the pendant, and voilà!

    Step 10: Final Pictures
