Pull Tab Fire Starter

Hello in this instructible I will show you how to make the grenade fire starter

things you will need:

toilet paper roll

painters tape

matches

scrap cardboard

lighter fluid

container for the lighter fluid

and the match striker from the side of a strike on box match

Please be careful, this instructible deals with fire

Step 1: The Matches

gather two matches and place them side by side, then get the striker and tape one end with the painters tape to act as a handle ,then place the matches on top of the match striker( you can find one of these on the side of a small match box)

Step 2: Tape the Matches

once you have the two matches placed on top of the striker tape it with the matches facing up so you can pull the striker out smoothly, then tape the matches tightly to the side of the toilet paper roll about two inches from the top, once it is all secure roll the scrap cardboard and place it inside the toilet paper roll

Step 3: Light It Up

once it is all secure and you are ready to start the fire, get the container and fill it about a quarter of the way with lighter fluid, then dip the top of the fire starter in the fluid and be careful not to get the matches wet, then once the roll is saturated at the top pull the tab hard to the side and toss into the fire pit

Step 4: (preferred) Pine Sap Version

I realized that the lighter fluid was a little dangerous so I came up with a solution, pine sap is very good for fire starters because it contains turpentine, so all you need to have for this version of the pull tab fire starter is

pine sap

and the original pull tab fire starter

You start with the original fire starter, but instead of the lighter fluid you would use pine sap, cover the top of the fire starter with the sap(as shown in the picture) make sure the matches come in close contact with the sap, and you might need to add a match because the pine sap is a little harder to catch on fire, after you cover the top of the fire starter it is ready, and the good thing about the sap is that you can store it away for months and still be able to use it, unlike the lighter fluid that goes away after a few minutes
