Introduction: Group It!

Building with Basic Shapes is a lot of fun, but did you know you can combine shapes to create new ones?

Let's try grouping some shapes.

Instructions

    1. Continue to the next step.

Step 1: Group the Shapes on the Left

The cylinder shape on the left is set to an orange color. The cylinder on the right is set to be a hole.

Let's see what happens when we group a box with each of these shapes.

Let try it now!

Instructions

    1. Select the Box on the left by left clicking on the shape.
    2. Hold SHIFT on the keyboard and also select the orange cylinder.

      HINT:

Shapes you have selected will be outlined in a blue color.

    3. With both shapes selected, click the Group button on the right side of the top toolbar.
    4. The two shapes should both turn the same color.

      HINT:

The group color will match the first shape selected when creating the group. If you pick the cylinder first the group will be orange, selecting the box first will make the group red.

    5. Continue to the next step.

Step 2: Group the Shapes on the Right

Now try they same steps with shapes on the right.

Instructions

    1. Select the Box on the right by left clicking on the shape.
    2. Hold SHIFT on the keyboard and also select the transparent (see through) cylinder.

      HINT:

Shapes you have selected will be outlined in a blue color.

    3. With both shapes selected, click the Group button on the toolbar.
    4. This time the cylinder should make a hole in the red box shape.
    5. Continue to the next step.

Step 3: You Got It!

Congratulations!

Keep up the good work!
