Introduction: Hand Sewn Monkey Made From Socks
A different twist on the classic Sock Monkey.
Step 1: Video Tutorial
Step 2: Learn From My Mistakes
Since this is the first time in a long while since I've sewn anything I made a few errors.
I forgot the cardinal rule which is to sew with the right sides facing each other leaving a gap large enough to turn things ride side out.
So for the first couple steps I will be explaining what you should do if you want your sock monkey to turn out neater than mine did.
It took me around three hours to make.
Step 3: Here Is a Cutting/sewing Guide
Step 4: Allocate Four Fingers Worth of Space for the Head
Turn the sock inside out!
Step 5: Sew a Running Stitch Around the Foot of the Sock
Ensure you aren't sewing the two sides of the sock together. Place a piece of foam at the end of the needle and use a different one to continue sewing.
Step 6: Cut a Strip Down the Sock
To create legs use your scissors to cut off the elastic part of the sock.
Then cut a strip down of material from the top of the sock to make legs.
Step 7: Round Out the Feet
Step 8: Begin Sewing the Feet/legs Togther
Use whichever hand stitch you feel comfortable with.
(I'm unsure of what kind of stitching I'm doing is called.)
Step 9: Sew the Legs, Leaving a Gap to Turn Everything Right Side Out
Your sock should still be right sides facing each other, unlike in the image above.
Sew the legs together leaving a gap to turn it right side out (this ensures your stitching looks neater).
Step 10: Stuff the Head of the Monkey
Using the gap to turn your sock right side out, fill the head with stuffing and tighten and tie off the ends.
Step 11: Stuff the Rest of the Body and the Legs
After adequately stuffing, sew the hole shut.
Step 12: Cut Out the Arms and Mouth Pieces From Your Other Sock
I used the strip of fabric I cut out to make the legs for the tail.
Step 13: Sew and Stuff the Arms and the Tail Pieces
Step 14: Attach the Tail and Arms
Step 15: Paint a Face on the Fabric You Cut Off of the Sock's Toe Area
Alternatively you could sew on button eyes or embroider one on.
I used fabric paint.
Step 16: Sew the Face On
Snip away excess thread.
Step 17: Enjoy Your New Friend!
If you make this I would adore to see pictures or videos of it :)!
