Introduction: Handheld Edgelit Light

Create this handheld edgelit light and amaze all your friends with hoographic images of engraved plexiglass!

Step 1: Materials

Arduino Nano, Solderless Male-Male Wires, LEDs, 4-pin Solderless Button, Solderless Breadboard

Step 2: Wiring Up the LED

Wire as shown (some wood backing already attatched)

Step 3: Program

// constants won't change. They're used here to
// set pin numbers:
const int buttonPin = 13; // the number of the pushbutton pin
const int ledPin = 12; // the number of the LED pin

// variables will change:
int buttonState = 0; // variable for reading the pushbutton status

void setup() {
// initialize the LED pin as an output:
pinMode(ledPin, OUTPUT);
// initialize the pushbutton pin as an input:
pinMode(buttonPin, INPUT);
}

void loop() {
// read the state of the pushbutton value:
buttonState = digitalRead(buttonPin);

// check if the pushbutton is pressed.
// if it is, the buttonState is HIGH:
if (buttonState == HIGH) {
// turn LED on:
digitalWrite(ledPin, HIGH);
} else {
// turn LED off:
digitalWrite(ledPin, LOW);
}
}

Step 4: Assemble Wood Housing

Assemble as shown with hot glue gun (you may assemble differently, but make sure you leave a hole for the button and power cable.

Step 5: Engrave!

Use a laser cutter or engraver to create personalized designs tailored to your special light!
