Introduction: Hanging Plant Holder

I always have lots of potted planted taking up all of my very small backyard space. I wanted to make something that would take advantage of vertical space.

Supplies

You will need:

4 mm Crochet hook

1 (small) Skein of 100% cotton yarn (such as lily n’ Sugar brand)

Scissors

4 inch high planter (10.5 Cm)

Key chain ring

Burlap

Potting soil

Perlite

Sand

Succulent bud

A hook or hanger you can mount onto your house or deck

Step 1: Start Magic Circle

Use the magic circle method and single crochet 8 stitches.

Step 2: Double Crochet

Double crochet 2 stitches into the previous row. You should have 16 stitches. Remember to crochet over the tail to avoid slipping. (I did leave it at the end of the second row to make it easier to find the start)

Step 3: Build the Bottom

Crochet 2 Rows using the double crochet stitch. Work two into every other stitch.

Step 4: Work Up

Begin working up by completing 1 row without adding stitches.

Step 5: Work Up and Out

Add 2 stitches in each row until you  have crocheted about 5 inches from tip to top. (see diagram above)

Step 6: Sew Excess

Fasten off your work and sew the loose seams

Step 7: Cut Strings

Cut 14 2 ft (61 cm) long strings. Divide them into pairs.

Step 8: Attach Strings

Attach each pair of strings by pulling string ends through a loop.

Step 9: Finishing Touches-Cobra Knot

Using the “Cobra knot”, Paracord about an inch of the bottom

Step 10: Finishing Touches-Ring

Attach a metal ring to the top and fasten.

Step 11: Attach a Hook to House

If necessary, mount a hanger in the desired area.

Step 12: Plant

Plant your succulent by mixing water, perlite, and sand until you reach a sandy consistency. Add the burlap in the bottom, pour in your soil mix, and plant your desired succulent.

Step 13: Hang!
