Intro: Heart Bracelet From Staples

Here i am going to show you how to personally create a "Heart"
bracelet from staples for your loved one, that i discovered from playing
around with them while im at work.

your going to need the materials listed on the next step.

the bracelet with ten "Hearts" and ten "links" measures about 6 and Half inches
long and is just the right size for almost any average wrist or ankle.

STEP 1: Step 1 (Materials)

Most importantly of course, your going to want to get some staples!

But which staples should you choose? well from countless hours of trying to find staples
that wont break or snap when bent and are not "too hard" to bend i think i may have found the perfect set.
The staples i have chosen are...

1. Arrow T50 3/8" - 10mm, the box you are looking for is Blue and black and in the corner it will say # 506 or #5061P (5000 Pack, or BIG BOX =] ),  Heavy Duty.

2. A decent Set of Pliers, either needle nose, or equivalent, i used pliers with a 1 mm tip.

3. Tough Fingers, as bending many staples with a thumb and set of pliers can get a bit painful.
however i feel this gives the bracelet a little bit more sentimental value :).

STEP 2: Step 2 (bending and Preparation)

Start by firmly grasping a staple with the pliers, right at the factory bend and straighten it out.

When your done flip it over and repeat.

were going to do this 20 - 25 times as needed, so we have all the materials ready for the next step.

STEP 3: Creating LINKS!

Here i will show you how to create the "Links" for the bracelet.

#1. Grab the Staple so that the Pointed edge lines up with the edge of the pliers.

#2. Bend at a 90 Degree angle 3 times until you have a "box".

#3. Repeat for the other Side, so it now looks like a dumbbell.

#4. Then Slightly Bend out the inner most point on the staple to taper it out for room to slide on the hearts you will be creating in the next step... Don't worry we will bend it back when were done. =D

#5. Repeat 10 - 15 times as needed, Ten hearts and Ten links creates a bracelet 6 and 1/2" Long.

STEP 4: Creating HEARTS!

This step is a bit tricky :)

There are 3 different Sizes OR Styles if you will, of the heart, and you choose the one that best fits your loved one.

In this step i will show you how to create all 3 and the differences between them.

#1. The straight and Narrow

#2. The In-between

#3. The Marshmallow

Now for all of the Hearts you will perform the exact same steps for the Links however the first bend will be the only one you change, for the selected Heart of your choice.

For instance, if i wanted Heart #2 i would start with the center of my pliers, right where the angle on the edge of the staple starts
and bend at a 90 Degree angle 3 times, essentially creating a box.

If i wanted Heart #3, i would start a little bit farther in, about a 1/4th of a mm. or right at the edge of where the angle on the staple begins, and Then bend at a 90 Degree angle 3 times for the box,

#1. Find your preferred Heart Starting Location and bend at a 90 Degree Angle 3 times until you have the box you need.

#2. Repeat for the Other Side.

#3. Grab you staple to Either the LEFT or the RIGHT side of CENTER
this is especially important because you want the heart to bend in the Center not off to the side, otherwise it will not be symmetrical.

Proceed to bend upwards so that the boxes touch in the middle, Creating your First Heart!

#4. Repeat 10 - 15 times as needed, Ten hearts and Ten links creates a bracelet 6 and 1/2" Long.

STEP 5: Assembly!

Now that we have the Links, and the Hearts, we can begin Assembly!

This bracelet was done with Ten links and Ten Hearts.

#1. Grab a Tapered Link and 2 Hearts and Assemble them so that the tapered part of the link goes inside one of the boxes on the Hearts.

Be sure to make all the hearts face the same way, or to alternate the orientation, for the best look.
for my Bracelet, i made them all face the same way.

#2. Using your pliers, close off the tapered edge of the link, locking the 2 hearts, and Link together.

#3. Add one link and one heart to the other side of the heart, in the exact same way as step 1, and Repeat until you have Ten links and Ten Hearts, or however many you choose.

2 Hearts and 1 Link makes roughly 1" if using Heart Design #2.

#4. with the flat part of the Links towards you loved ones wrist, wrap it around, then using your pliers, carefully secure the last link to the first Heart, securing the bracelet to the wrist.

#5. Admire you handiwork, and watch the bracelet show your significant other your affection! :)

Any thoughts on a clasp to link the bracelet together so you can take it on/off easier?

My favorite clasps are the magnetic ones. You can get them on and off easily by yourself--craft store or online

Other than just keeping one of the Links partially open, and clipping it on, i have found a few that would go well with this bracelet

You can always check a craft store for jewelry clasps and attach a jump ring from the heart top to the new clasp :]
Wow! I had seen one on this site before from paper clips, but I love that this one is flat! Your forming of the hearts is really good too! Have you considered spray painting these? Even the hearts individually? Maybe leaving the connector parts original? Either way this is on my "projects I have to do list" and I'm foreseeing a red and black one :P haha
Haha, yes that would be an awesome idea, i never thought of that, maybe even black and orange for halloween?..

and thats awesome, im glad you all appreciate this as much as i do.
Yeah totally for halloween, v-day, rainbows, favorite colors, and I guess tape strips for striping (tedious I bet but still) :D Possibly string wrapping! Using the "friendship bracelet" string. Wrap around the tail end of the string on the inner side of the heart and finish the end with some super glue!
Thank you so much for posting this! I have been looking for an idea for a gift for my girlfriend, and this is perfect! I must admit though, i will not be using staples. I have some 1mm silver wire lying around, and it is going to look great!
I am going to upload a picture, but not untill i have given it to her :)
Thanks once again!
No problem, I am so happy to hear that! send me the link when your done, i would love to see it!
You could get some chainmail links in pink to make the hearts. Also, a second set of pliers might save your fingers/thumbs.
Awesome idea! I was trying to make jewelry with staples the other week but I was just using the plain paper ones and they were so flimsy that I just got mad and gave up. Nice thinking using the heavy duty ones :)
Thank You! I Appreciate that!
