Introduction: Herbal Cigarette
Statutory warning: Smoking is injurious to health.
That said and done, most of the people smoke for various reasons. This instructable will guide you to how to reduce the ill effects of smoking by making a herbal cigarette. For those who don't know what a herbal cigarette is here is the explanation. A herbal cigarette is a cigarette which uses a substitute for tobacco for lighting up your smoke. The major difference here is that it does no contain NICOTINE content which is addictive. People get addicted to smoking because of nicotine. their body gets used to it and they become used to its daily intake. Also, tobacco is a health hazard. it causes all sorts of health problems like chronic coughing, mouth cancer, lung cancer, etc. In short, if you go the herbal way you will enjoy smoking minus side effects!

Things we require for the mix:

2. Nutmeg (or jaiphal in hindi) powder*
3. Clove powder or mint leaves for flavour
Things to get done:
1. paper to roll the mix
2. cotton filter
3. glue
4. scissors
5. container
* Optional. It is a substitute to get high... (m not joking :0 )
Once you have all these, proceed to next step!
Step 2: Cut and Dry the Morris Alba Leaves
Take about 20-25 leaves and cut them into small pieces with the help of scissors (small enough to the size of the tobacco filling in cigarettes). after cutting them store them in a box to dry for over 10-15 days depending on the climate.
Note: Make sure you store them in a cool and dry place as the can catch fungus and ruin everything.
If you are using mint leaves for flavour, do the same for them and store them in a seperate box (take about 50 mint leaves for flavour).
Step 3: Make Clove Powder and Nutmeg Powder
To make clove powder, take about 4-5 cloves and grinds them.
If you are using nutmeg to get a kick, simply shred them like cheese to get the powder.
use 1 tea spoon of each of them depending upon your taste.
After the leaves have dried, take them out and mix them with clove and nutmeg*.
Ta da... You are done with your mixture. Now, put in a paper. use cotton as a filter and u r done!

Using tobacco on plant lice and snails works because nicotine is highly poisonous to them. It is one of very few substances toxic to snails. You just need to scatter a bit of tobacco dust around your veggie garden and you will have no snail problems.

I might be more supportive of this if you'd got the use of a camera and taken photos.
Smoking nutmeg / cloves? That has got to be horrible, like sniffing-glue. It's oily and as you say "a bit toxic".
I think this has promise in terms of experimentation, but "legal" translates to "cheap and unpleasant" to me.
Get yourself some (illegal) good-green... Man, why did God create good-highs? It's only The Man says "you can't do this" - why obey and do something crappy?

clove is generally used in cigarettes as a flavour. if u have tasted gudangaram or malboro clove u will feel the taste... but ya! nutmeg is a bit off... i tried it once and it made not much difference i must say....

Actually, it's not his world.
Hundreds of thousands of smokers smoke clove cigarettes.
The most popular brand being "Djarum Black".
I'm not too keen on them, but they are a nice change from regular "Marlboro this, Newport that".

Yes and millions of women smoke menthol (yuk like Earl Grey tea).
I'll look out for them things though.

Yeah, I'm a cigar guy, but I got hooked on Newports a year ago. If I smoke Marlboro, I cough my lungs out. Just something about the menthol soothing my throat. I do wish I could quit though.
But cigars, I'll always smoke cigars. Can't live without em'.

My massive-on-the-intoxication friend has officially quit tobacco, except he hasn't 'cos he's on cigars.... But he reckons that not smoking 20 joints a day and having 3 cigars and a few pipes instead has done wonders for his health.......?

Your friend isn't totally wrong. Cigarettes have a ton more chemicals and preservatives in them than cigars or pipe tobacco, so it is a little healthier (i hate to use that word in this case lol). Personally, i'm in the process of switching to hand rolled cigs or American Spirits, no chemicals! And If he's smoking 20 J's a day, i'm suprised he's able to flick the lighter, lol. Lord knows i couldn't handle that much green fun.

That fella relapsed...
Another friend has quit tobacco since 4 years ago, she seems to be able to afford to roll pure-herbal ciggies.

My understanding is that it is the actual smoking that is bad for you. Not the nicotine per se. If you inject liquid nicotine or use nicotine in any way other than smoking you do not see the health consequences you see in smoking. Where I live we have done the comparative tests as tobacco is widely used finely ground and applied under the upper lip, disgusting habit by the way. So by smoking other herbs, you still get most of the the ill effects of smoking, without actually getting the "buzz" of the cracked nicotine. Still a good thing I suppose. Without the nicotine your body would soon recognize this is bad for you and you will soon cut down on the habit. Provided there are not any other chemicals in the herbs that trigger some addiction system... Nutmeg especially must be a bad idea...

Nicotine is quite toxic in concentrated form. Tobacco isn't concentrated, but have heard some companies add a little, to give it a boost. Sort of like 'fortified' wine, for those who can't afford the good stuff, but can't afford to go without... Cigarette companies add dozens of chemicals, preservatives, burn rate, flavor, addiction, or just for fun. Growing your own tobacco would much healthier than the commercial kind, likely not much different than your herbal substitute.

Still, the most ill effects are form the inhaling of smoke from burnt plants. Not necessarily from the burning plant being tobacco. Women in the third world have similar effects as smokers from using dirty-burning cooking fires. Just guessing here, but I would think its less harmful to smoke tobacco than to smoke nutmeg... At least the effects would be more known. On the other hand, you can not kill off plant lice on your roses by letting nutmeg soak in water over night and spraying the water on the lice, something that works quite well with tobacco. Although that may well be because the active ingredient in nutmeg appears to be an oil and not soluble in water.

i appreciate your point. maybe nutmeg is not the best option. its just that i found out on the net that if taken in less quantities its safe and effective. i don't recommend it but some people smoke to get high... so just providing an option to them. thanks for your post!

You can smoke spice and get high. but its not good to smoke constantly. its supposed to be burned like inscense and calm you down but it will get you very high and is legal.
