Introduction: His & Hers - Leather Keychain

About: Creative @Heart. Creative @Mind.

What do we do when we are asked for 'handmade' gifts for a couple? This is one such story when we have family get-togethers and there are always a bunch of options for the 'women', but it's hard to find something matching for the 'men' folks.

During our last meeting, I was nearly challenged to have something that would be equally acceptable and loved by the couple. This is one such sincere attempt. Let me know if anyone likes or dislikes it :-)

Be with me if you think you are in.

Supplies

1. Faux Leather ribbon

2. A pair of keychains

3. Silk crochet threads (Red, white, pink and purple)

4. Hole Punch tool

5. Scissors

6. Glue

7. A ruler

8. Pen (for marking)

Step 1: Getting 'His' Ribbon Ready

I decided to choose 5 inches as the length for both 'his' and 'hers' keychain. I cut the ribbon at twice this length which means 11 inches. Look for images 1-6. As the width is 26 mm, I marked a line along the middle at 13 mm on each side (image 3). After that I marked 15 mm marking along this line. Using a hole punch tool, I then made holes as shown in image 4 and 5. A total of 7 pairs holes are made. Folded the ribbon into half and slipped through the keychain holder.

Step 2: Making 'His' Keychain Design

The very first step is to correctly align all the 7 pair of holes one below the other. I just did that here. Then, I threaded the big needle with the red thread almost 3 feet in length. After that I slipped through the thread under the upper top ribbon and in between both the ribbon (see image 1). Then lifted the needle through the first punched hole. Inserted the needle through the second hole and brought it up again through the first hole. Continued to wrap around this double thread 7 times (as shown in image 6). The inserted the needle under this bunch of threads all together and wrapped the thread over the needle to knot. Continued in this way until the end of this threads. Lastly slipped it in between the ribbon strips to be cut off. I continued with the same steps for every other pair of punched holes. This was for the red thread.

Then I switched over to the white thread and followed the exact same steps as the red thread.

When done with both these steps, I finally tucked in the final cut thread ends and glued in between both the ribbons.

As a last step I cut the long end into thin strips and the 'His' keychain is ready (image 20)

The reverse side looks straight lines of threads as shown in image 21.

Step 3: Getting 'Hers' Ribbon Ready

As decided earlier, 5 inches is the length for both 'his' and 'hers' keychain. These steps are exactly the same as the 'His' keychain ribbon.

So far, so good.

Step 4: Making 'Hers' Keychain Design

In this I choose the pink thread and wrapped it around on the left side first by putting it into and around the hole 7 time. Did the same with 4 time in the middle and 7 times again on the right. Images 1-3 show the same. Then, cut the threads and glued it in between the two ribbons. Looks neat and nice (image 3). Then, I choose purple thread to repeat the same steps as above for the next holes and along the sides (image 4). After this I decided to complete all the pink flowers and then the purple. Every time I completed one floral design, I cut the threads and glued it inside, keep it neat and clean.

Finally I cut the other end into thin strips and the 'Hers' keychain is ready.

Wasn't this a simple project with few materials and almost no special skills needed?
