I really wanted to make something to decorate my home for the holidays, and when I saw a similar looking wreath hanging in a store window display, I fell in love and knew I had to make it! I wanted a light colored wreath, so I chose to use duck cloth, a plain woven canvas-like fabric.

This wreath is extra awesome because it can be used year-round. You can leave the wreath plain, or switch up the decoration to fit the occasion!

Materials needed:

16-inch wreath form
3 yards of duck cloth
rotary cutter, cutting mat, and ruler; or fabric scissors
about 575 dressmaker pins
wreath decoration (optional)

Step 1: Step 1: Cut the Cloth

Cut the duck cloth into three inch strips. Take two or three of the strips and wrap the wreath form completely. Secure the strips with some pins. This step is really important, or else you'll get bits of foam all over the place!

Cut the remaining duck cloth into 3" x 3" squares. I used a rotary cutter, cutting mat, and a ruler, but you can definitely just use a pair of fabric scissors. Don't worry about being super precise with the square measurements, as they're going to get folded and bunched up anyway.

I ended up using 575 squares for this wreath, so make yourself some hot cocoa and put on your favorite movie (or three)!

Step 2: Step 2: Fold and Pin

Fold a square into quarters and pin the folded corner to the wreath form. Pin the squares pretty close together and alternate the directions to create a full looking wreath. You can adjust the pinned pieces as you work.

Step 3: Step 3: Decoration

Once you're done pinning all of the squares to the wreath (whew!), you can either leave the wreath as-is, or find a decoration to pin on to it. Because I wanted this to be a Christmas-y wreath, I used a couple of fabric poinsettias.

This gorgeous wreath does take a little while to make, but it will totally be worth it in the end! Have fun!
