Introduction: Hollow Log Decorative Vase

About: Steward to about 20,000 trees on 40 acres.

I like using natural things to decorate our home. Having seen one on-line and having the test tubes, I made one for myself. We heat with wood so it was just a matter of finding the right hollow log.

Supplies

MATERIALS

8-9" diameter hollow log

1-1/2" x 8" glass test tube (available on-line)

TOOLS

Chainsaw or hand saw

Electric drill

1-1/2 spade drill bit

Table saw or hand saw

Step 1: Cutting the Hollow Log

Secure the log and cut off a 3" section. Determine the top and bottom of the finished piece and cut off the bottom so you have a flat, stable base.

Step 2:

Secure the piece and drill a 1-1/2" hole in the top. Make sure the bit is vertical as you drill. Brush away any sawdust and debris. Insert the test tube to make sure it fits properly. You might want to glue a piece of felt to the bottom of the log to protect furniture. Add decorative grasses or whatever you want to the tube.
