Intro: Homemade Cranberry Sauce

You will need:

Fresh Cranberries
White Sugar

&

Pot
Wooden Spoon / Spatula
Serving Dish

STEP 1: Mix

In a small pot, combine;

1 1/4 cup fresh whole cranberries

with

3/4 cup white granulated sugar


Mix and crush berries slightly with wooden spoon or spatula.

STEP 2: Simmer

Cook on low heat, stirring every 4-6 minutes for a total of about twenty minutes.

Once they start to soften, mash the berries a little more.

STEP 3:

After cooking berries into a sauce, remove from heat and let cool 5-10 minutes.

Pour sauce into a serving dish and refrigerate for at least one hour.

STEP 4: Serve

Comments

Adding orange/lemon zest adds a lot of flavor to cranberry sauce, as does a bit of cinnamon. I also like to use dark brown sugar rather than white, which makes it seem a little more like a chutney, especially if you add a little bit of apple cider vinegar, sautéed shallots, cumin & coriander seeds to the mix. There are a lot of options when making cranberry sauce.
