Step 2: Steps
STEP ONE: Preheat the oven according to the directions on the box.
STEP TWO: Grease a muffin tin, or line with cupcake wrappers.
STEP THREE: Prepare the cake mix according to the directions.
STEP FOUR: Soften the whipped cream cheese spread in the microwave for about 10-15 seconds (should be soft, but not melted). Add to the cake batter.
STEP FIVE: Add between 1/4 and 1 cups of maple syrup to the batter, depending on how maple-flavored you want them to be.
STEP SIX: Mix all together, pour into the muffin tin, then bake in oven for 15-20 minutes, length specified on the cake box, or until golden brown.
STEP SEVEN: Mix the frosting/icing with enough maple syrup to make it taste as maple-flavored as you would like it to.
STEP EIGHT: When the cupcakes finish baking, take them out of the oven and allow to cool for about two minutes, then remove and spread icing on them and top with a drizzle of maple syrup each. (Cupcakes should still be warm when icing.)
STEP NINE (OPTIONAL): Put them under a broiler or blowtorch until icing starts to brown slightly.
STEP TEN: Top with a short strip of cooked bacon (optional), and serve warm. Enjoy.
