Introduction: Hover Board Bookmarks
One of the most iconic movies of the 80s is mostly definitely "Back to the Future" from 1985! If you ever seen this movie before, you probably know that Michael J. Fox's character Marty McFly has been known for traveling to certain years in a time machine made out of a DeLoreon and sliding around on a hover board (well, in the second film, of course!). Now, you can take that hover board and use it to save a space in your books, with this fun and easy DIY craft inspired by the movie. This 4-piece set features a bookmark representing the different years as we know today!
P.S. This is a great DIY homemade gift for the bookworm or 80s fan on your holiday list!
Step 1: What You'll Need
What you will need to make your hover board bookmarks are...
- jumbo size craft sticks
- assortment of acrylic paints
- paint brushes
- puff paints
Step 2: Paint Your Sticks
First, lay out 4 jumbo craft sticks on a piece of old newspaper. Then, paint them with specific colors based on the different years. For my 4-piece bookmark set, I used orange n for 1885, light pink for 1955, neon pink for 1985 and blue for 2015 (which, by the way, marks the 30th anniversary of the film). Now, you can personalize your bookmarks with some detailing and add the years to the front.
You can even add a little more sparkle to your bookmarks by adding a few dusts of glitter or glue on a few rhinestones or studs to your bookmarks.
Step 3: Add More Detail
Now, use your puff paints to pipe out the classic hover board design. You can refer to the movie "Back To The Future II" for reference, or look it up on Google and use as your guide. Then, write out the years using black puff paint.
Optional: You can also print out some images of different events that went on during those years and decoupage them to your bookmarks in strips. Simply print out images from the four different years, and use a X-acto knife or scissors to cut your images in strips. Then, add a layer of Mod Podge on your craft stick, add your strips of paper, then go over with another layer of Mod Podge to seal.
Step 4: Ready to Read
Now, they're ready to use! Use these bookmarks to save your place in your book, and get lost in a time traveling adventure!
