Introduction: How to Create a Thumbprint Tree on a Laser Cutter
I was asked if I could make a thumbprint tree for a friend's wedding. Instead of doing the traditional thumbprint tree guestbook, I decided to make one out of oak using a laser cutter to etch the design of the tree and cut ou the oval shape.
Materials
- 5 MM Oak

Step 1: Open Your Tree File in Photoshop
Open it in Photoshop. Make sure the image is in black and white. Save.
Step 2: Open File in Adobe Illustrator
In this step you will be creating your cutlines as well as changing the size of the tree.
Step 3: Cut It Out
Cut it out using a laser cutter.
Yes I am aware that not everyone has access to a $25,000 laser cutter.
Thats why you should definitely consider getting a membership at TechShop.

Step 4: Remember That Day Forever
Have each guest dab their thumb into the ink.
Sign it and by the end of the wedding there is a beautiful and colourful tree!
Enjoy!
