Introduction: How to Make a Peach Dessert Calzone

These instructions will teach you how to make your own dessert calzone at home. I use peaches in this recipe, but any of your favorite fruits will work as well. This recipe has evolved by a mistake I made by using powdered sugar on my calzone instead of flour one day. It turned out to be very sweet tasting and very delicious. So instead of a normal pizza calzone, I decided to make a dessert calzone that could utilize how sweet the crust is. This recipe only should take about 20 minutes total including baking time (assuming the bread is thawed) and is simple enough for anyone to make. This is a great dessert to make with a lot of people. It is fun and tastes great! I hope you enjoy it!

Step 1: Gather Necessary Items

The first thing that needs to be done is to gather all the ingredients that will be used. These ingredients are enough to make 3 calzones.

Food Ingredients
1 loaf of frozen bread dough (thawed)
1 15 oz can of diced peaches (or any fruit you desire)
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamone
Powdered sugar

Tools
1 small mixing bowl
1 rolling pin
1 cutting board (kitchen counter works as well)
1 fork
1 large kitchen knife

TIP: The frozen bread dough can be bought in the frozen food section at your local convenient store. They are very cheap and come in packs of 3-5 loafs of bread each.

TIP: The dough takes a few hours to thaw if it is frozen, so make sure it has been sitting out before you start cooking.

Step 2: Prepare the Ingredients

1.) Mix together the peaches, nutmeg, and cinnamon into the small mixing bowl.

2.) Cut the thawed bread dough into three equal sections.

WARNING!: Be careful when using the knife, as you could cut yourself in the process.

TIP: Slice the peaches to as small of pieces as you can. This makes them much easier to eat from the calzone later.

Step 3: Roll Out the Crust

It is now time to create the crust of the calzone.

1.) Sprinkle the surface you are working on with some of the powdered sugar to avoid the dough from sticking to the surface.

2.) Put one of the sections of bread dough on the surface.

3.) Sprinkle some powdered sugar on top of the dough as well, again to keep from sticking .

TIP: Keep adding the powdered sugar throughout this entire step when you feel the dough getting sticky again

4.) Take the palm of your hands and smash the dough down until it is flattened to about the size of your entire hand. Sprinkle the dough again, rubbing it to cover the entire surface of the dough.

5.) Use the rolling pin to flatten down the dough. It should be about double the size it was before.

6.) Add one last layer of powdered sugar to both sides, and make sure it is lightly covered all over with it.

TIP: Try to flip the dough over and spin it while using the rolling pin, to keep it circular and evenly thinned.

Step 4: Add the Peaches

Place the peaches in the middle of the dough, while trying to avoid getting the peaches around the edges.

TIP: Try to transfer over as little of the peach syrup as possible, as the syrup will make it very hard to seal the calzone shut. (Save the syrup though, you can drizzle it on top of the calzone after it is done baking!)

Step 5: Seal the Calzone

1.) Fold the dough over so it is folded over itself.

2.) Take the bottom edge and slightly fold it over the top edge.

3.) Use a fork to mold the edges together, creating the pattern shown in this steps image.

TIP: If the fork is sticking to the dough, put more powdered sugar on the edges. This will keep it from sticking so much.

4.) Sprinkle one last coat of powdered sugar on top and make sure it covers the whole thing.

5.) Take about a tablespoon of water and poor it on top. Rub it all around so it covers the entire top. The powdered sugar should mix with the water making a kind of icing layer on top.

Step 6: Bake the Calzone

Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Bake it until the crust turns light golden brown, it should take about 10 minutes. Serve it up with a side of vanilla ice cream and you are ready to eat your delicious dessert!
