Introduction: How to Make the Research Dart Rocket-Powered Paper Airplane
Fast, small and a dedicated rocket plane, the Research Dart is a great research testbed. If you want to put a rocket in an aircraft, this is your plane. With its dart configuration and it's internal bays, it reduces drag and increases potential speed.
TAA Designation: X5-1
Step 1: Materials
Required:
1 Piece of 8.5 by 11 inch paper
Tape
Optional:
Pencil
Step 2: Start Folding
Fold "hot dog"-style, then fold the corners in on each side.
Step 3: Fold the Top Down
Fold the nose down as pictured. Then fold the corners in.
Step 4: Start Folding the Bays
Open the folds. Then pull the top back up. Now fold the paper back in again. The paper will form a triangle. Then fold it into a small diamond.
Step 5: Fold the Paper Together
As pictured from the last step so the plane is folded in half. Fold the bay up to the bottom of the plane. Repeat on the other side.
Step 6: Fold the Wings
Fold the wings down like you would a dart. Repeat on the other side.
Step 7: Fold the "Gull Fold"
By aligning the wing with the rocket bay as noted in the picture, you can fold the gull wing required for this airplane.
Step 8: The Fold of the Wing...
...should appear like this.
Step 9: Taping
Tape the bays down and the back together.
Step 10: Flight
Put two rockets in and you're ready for flight!

i dont understand step 7...help please?

Well, from the peak of the bay to the trailing edge, you fold parallel to the center fold of the paper. By the "peak" I mean the furthest point out from the fuselage. A pencil should help find this point before beginning the fold.

ok i get what you mean...i dont attach the bays to the wings...i just close them...it works better try it. i cant wait to put some engines in it. im going to try the smallest model rocket engines. i tried bottle rockets. successful but i lost the plane (the ending charge xD ) great ible!!!!!!!

how to throw without burning yourself on rocket sparks???
Answer 2 years ago
I would not recommend throwing the airplane at all. Instead, if you are using rockets, put it into a launching pad with no fire risks that will guide the plane in the direction you want.

if you put rockets in the plane the rockets would cause the plane to catch fire then you would have to rocket engines flying off to who knows where

Sometimes yes, other times no. For the most part, this is simply strapping a plane to a rocket, however this is about the cleanest design you can have for such a task. Therefore less drag, higher speed and further flight.
