Introduction: How to Build a Solar Powered Boombox

The goal of this project was to create a speaker that was energy independent and solar powered. The system was designed to be fairly compact and portable. The system allows for use in various environments such as in the mountains, on the rivers, or in a city park. The speaker is made inexpensive parts and re-purposed items. In all, this entire system can be built for less than $50, depending on available materials. We hope you enjoy your sustainable audio system.

Step 1: Starting With the Battery, Connect a Copper Wire to the Positive Terminal.

Step 2: Connect the Other End of the Copper Wire to the Positive Terminal on the On/off Switch.

Step 3: Cut the Power Supply Plug of the Speaker Power Cable Off and Strip the Wire. Separate the Wires and Using a Voltage Meter Determine Which Wire Is Negative and Which One Is Positive.

Step 4: Connect the Positive Wire of the Speaker Power Cable to the Positive Terminal on the On/off Switch.

Step 5: Connect the Negative Wire of the Speaker Power Cable to the Negative Terminal on the Battery.

Step 6: Plug the Speaker Power Cable Into the Power Input on the Speaker.

Step 7: Plug the Auxiliary Cord Into the Back of the Speaker. Plug the Other End of the Auxiliary Cord Into the 3.5mm Jack on a Music Device.

Step 8: To Connect the Solar Panel to the Battery, Connect the Positive and Negative Wires of the Cigarette Jack to the Positive and Negative Terminals on the Battery.

Step 9: Plug the Solar Panel Cigarette Jack Into the Cigarette Jack Port That Is Connected to the Battery.
