Materials Needed: (affiliate links)

Tools Needed:

STEP 1: Cut Your Boards to Length

Follow the cut diagram above to make all your cuts. All the angles are 25ยบ and be sure to orientate them the correct way.

STEP 2: Assemble the Two Arms

Use the Yellow and Red pieces to create the arms. Sandwich these boards together using some Timberlok screws.

STEP 3: Assemble the Frame

Use the color coded diagram to help with the assembly. Use more 4.5" Timberlok screws.

STEP 4: Add the Feet

Flip over the frame and add your two feet. Be sure to center these to the frame.

STEP 5: Add the Supports

Eye ball a good angle and screw these in place. All that matters is that this section looks good. They just add support to the frame. Be sure to step back and make sure you are doing each side the same.

STEP 6: Add the Eye Screws

Use Stainless steel eye screws here. Pre drill and use a screw driver to screw them in. We used these: http://amzn.to/2u2GdEK

STEP 7: Move Into Place

Find a nice place for your hammock and Relax! Your All DONE!

as a metric user, i just would like to add some informations ;) (for a future check ;) )

2x4x8 = 2"x4"x8' = 35mm x 90mm x 2.5m

96" = 8' = 2.5m (2.438 to be exact)

48 = 1.22m

36 = 0.914m

12 = 0,3048m

10 = 0.254m

6 = 0.1524m

So, if I go into a European lumber yard looking for a 2x4, what do I ask for?

48*98mm is the same as 2*4. You can also choose 36*98mm (1,5*4). It gives you more then enough stiffness, but reduce the total weight alot.

Do you think 25 x 100 mm would be stiff enough as well?
I would not make it out of 25mm thick material. My guess is that it would be shaky sideways of you swing the hammock. If you are lying still I think it would work.
2x4 in metric is 38x89 mm

No, it's not. 2*4 is 48*98mm. 1,5*4 on the other hand is 36*98 (36 if it's planed on both sides)

In the UK and Ireland if you ask for a 2x4 they will know exactly what you want. Smaller builders yards will have more knowledgeable (older) staff!

In mainland Europe you just need to work out what you require in mm/cm. 2x4 in metric is 38mm x 89mm like wbrohpy1 has said below but ultimately look for something with the same ratio of 2:1 in a size that suits you.

oh, these are super helpful!

Yeah I'm confused on step two. Why are boards only 25 deg on one end of the 48". Should it be 25 deg on both ends
Click on the cut list, it opens up to see the complete diagram :)
There are many hammock lengths. In following this design.. I used a 110 inch hammock with small curved spreader bars. Canvas bed size is 59 inches wide and 75 inches long & overall length is 110 inches. This left about 10 inches on each end of a rope/nylon extension and hook to the eye bolt and provides good comfort when using hammock...some slack but not too much... Good size fit for this design. Very happy with design and overall outcome...many compliments. thx!
Could you tell me where you bought your size hammock. I'm having trouble finding one
Great design.

What is the distance between the 2 eye bolts? I want to make sure it's long enough for my hammock.
from center to center of eye bolts it is 120inches following the design.
I just cut for 48 inch boards with a 25 degree angle on on end f each board and 4 12 in boards with a 25 degree angle on one end. how do I say much these together because one end is going to be straight regardless?
Do you know what the wood sizes are in the UK?

Seem like US sizes and can't figure it out !
How does lumber come in the UK? I've never had a conversation about buying wood in a metric world
In the US it's 'buy 7 of the 8'(96") boards'.
96" is 2.438 M
48" is 1.2192 M
36" is .914 M
12" is .304 M
10" is .254 M
6" is .152 M
That said... I didn't realize my hammock was bigger than the prescribed size so I ended up doing what droneshotmnap did and extending the middle board on each arm this morning... I would have rather extended the base with 120" boards...but put in too much time laser engraving a cool logo on it to go run back to lowes/home depot for a 3rd trip this week.
