How to Change Media Location in JW Library

Introduction: How to Change Media Location in JW Library

JW Library is a Metro app meaning that it does have a simplified interface. This is a good thing in most cases as for most users you just simply load the app and use it the way you need. The rub comes when you want to do slightly more advanced things such as change the media folder in JW Library.

Step 1: No Dialog for Changing Folders

If you go to the gear icon in JW Library and click on Video or Audio locations you'll see that there is only one path and no ability to add others. This is because this is controlled by the Windows proper interface.

Step 2: Open a Windows Folder

Simply hold down the Windows key on your keyboard (generally either side of the space bar) and press e.

On the left hand side of the window you'll see a bunch of drives and network locations etc but you should also see a section called Library and under this section you'll see two folders - Music and Videos. The following needs to be performed on each folder but we'll look at the Music folder for this Instructable.

Right click on Music and you'll get a menu appear so choose Properties.

Step 3: Adding a Path

A new dialog box will appear and you should see an Add button... click it.

From here find the location you want to save the Music files to and then click Include Folder.

You'll now see that your new path has been included.

Click OK.

Step 4: Set in JW Library

Open up JW Library again and click the gear icon.

Now when you go to the Audio path you should see your new location show up in the list. Simply click on the location you want to save to and all the audio downloads will be saved to that location.

You can copy the existing JWLibrary folder in the original Music location and JW Library won't need to download the files again.

I have followed the instructions on two Windows 10 PCs. However, although all the downloaded files (music and video) are in the proper folders and the settings of jw library points to them, they will not play unless deleted and re-downloaded...

Does the video have the download icon I.e. The cloud icon? If so click that and it will relink video file.

If the download icon isn't there then you might have to reset the preferences. Unfortunately when you do it will remove all the downloads. The other way is, before changing the path as above, delete all the videos from your existing library. Make sure you haven't set the new location. Once the videos and audio are deleted, follow the above steps. You should see the download icon but when you tap it it should find the existing file and link to it.

Thank you. This was very helpful. An extra detail that might help some is that libraries are hidden by default in Windows 10. Before you can follow these instructions, you have to enable libraries. Instructions are easy to find - just Google "enable libraries in Windows 10."

Thank you so much, I couldn't find this information anywhere else, and your instructions were what I needed to fix the issue of JW Library not downloading videos.

In windows 10 Pro, go to folder options from inside a folder, click on the view tab, scroll all the way to the bottom and select show libraries, then click apply. You should now see the library folder in the window inside a folder.

Not sure as it’s a completely different way of doing things. From memory it’s done in Settings specifically for JW Library. I don’t do Android so don’t accept my word as wrote though

A big thank you to you.
I've been looking for this for a long time. Not being a Windows user myself I didn't realise why I couldn't find videos which had already been downloaded.
