Changing oil on any should be done every 3,000 miles or every three months. Clean new oil saves the motor from being worn out and destroyed. If you want to save money you can learn how to do it yourself.

Step 1: Locating 4 Key Parts

First, you need to locate 4 things on the motor. You need to locate the oil drain plug, oil filter, oil dipstick and the oil fill cap. You need only a few tools: A funnel, a wrench that fits your drain plug, a oil pan for the waste oil, something to take the oil filter off and maybe a car jack if you have a car. If you have a car you need to jack the front up so you can crawl under to drain the oil.

Step 2: Removing the Drain Plug

Locate the drain plug and make sure it is not a drain to the transmission and loosen it with the wrench. Make sure to put your pan below to make sure you catch all the oil and do not spill or you will need to clean it up. While that is draining you can find the filter and loosen it. It will start to drip oil from the filter use another pan to catch the oil. To make sure you drain out most of the oil wait 15-20 minutes while it drains. A trick I learned to let the oil drain faster is take the oil fill cap off.

Step 3: Prepping the Oil Filter

Next, the new oil filter has a black rubber gasket that needs to be lubricated. Take your finger and dip it into the waste oil and rub it on the gasket and make sure it is covered. Replace the old filter with the new lubricated one.

Step 4: Retightening

After you have waited for the oil to finish dripping put the drain plug back in and tighten it with the wrench. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN. If it is over tightened it can strip the threads then you need a new drain plug also.

Step 5: Refilling Oil

Pour the new oil in to the oil fill to the correct amount. After inserting the amount of oil it calls for start it and let it run for a few minutes and pull the dipstick to check it. The last thing to do is place a sticker with the miles that the oil was changed at.
