Decide what type of skateboard you want. Even if you want a good board for less money, you will probable want to a complete. However, if you want a better board for more money, you will probably want to custom make your own skateboard. Choose from a longboard, classic skateboard, or street/vert boards. Street boards are generally the least expensive and longboards are the most. This selection is mostly based on perference.

Purchase a complete board online. Although they are not as good as custom made skateboards, you can get a decent skateboard for a lot less money, costing anywhere from $50 to $200. A custom made skateboard can set you back about $90 to $500.
Step 3:
Go to your local skate shop and talk to the people who work there. They are probably the best resources when purchasing a good skateboard. They usually will be able to find you a good skateboard according to your skill set and financial limitations. Furthermore, purchasing a complete skateboard in person may be more beneficial to you since it will give you a chance to test them out and get a good feel for them.
