Introduction: How to Clean Out Your Closet

As the seasons change and you begin to switch your wardrobe from summer to autumn to winter clothing you may notice there are multiple items of clothing you don't wear or have never worn before. Everyone has those items and they are just cluttering up our closets. Here are some simple steps how to clean out your closet so you are left with the cloths you actually wear.

Step 1: Pick a Type of Clothing

Start with shirts, pants, shorts, skirts, dresses, or shoes.

Stick with this item until you go through all the steps.

Step 2: Follow the Flow Chart

Step 3: Start Over

Choose another type of clothing.

Repeat the steps until you have gone through all of your clothing.

Step 4: Organize

For hanging items:

  • Turn the hangers backwards on the rod.
  • Turn the hangers back to normal once you have worn that item of clothing

For folded items:

  • Fold the item of clothing inside out
  • Fold the item of clothing normal once you have worn that clothing

Wait a couple of months or until the season changes

Find the clothes that are still hanging backwards or folded inside out and remove them from your closet

Step 5: Purge

Give away the clothes you do not keep.

Drop off clothes at a local Salvation Army, Goodwill, or shelter.
