Intro: How to Connect Chromecast to a Projector

What is Chromecast?
Chromecast is digital media player device that was created by Google. This device will works almost independently on your projector streaming video and sound content from applications like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, HBOGo, as well as directly from the a computer’s browser with limited mirroring capability. Chromecast is primarily controlled using an application downloaded to a tablet or smart device. This allows the user to control the Chromecast while allowing the controlling device to be used without disrupting its streaming capabilities.

For example, after selecting the content through a connected device like a smartphone, the user will still be able to answer phone calls or use other applications simultaneously. Also, users have the option to control and mirror content using Google Chrome, Google’s own web browser, from a desktop or laptop computer known as “tab casting”. However, not all content can be mirrored with tab casting. Browser plug-ins, like Silverlight and Quicktime, allow certain video files to be played from a web browser but are not supported by the Chromecast.

Chromecast Hardware and System
Chromecast contains the Marvell DE3005-A1 (AMD 1500) system on chip. This allows the decoding of the codecs used in video compression formats. These video formats are VP8 and H.264. The device is preloaded with the applications used to stream content. The device contains 512 MB of DDR3L Ram as well as 2 GB of flash storage built into it. To communicate with outside devices it uses 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n.

Android and Apple iOS Application Support
Android and Apple mobile operation system is supported. Both applications can be downloaded from their mobile app stores, respectively. The Android or iOS mobile application will detect the Chromecast dongle when connected to the same local network. The application will then establish a channel to securely exchange communication between the two devices.

Some Important Notes:

Will I be able to chromecast a powerpoint presentation from my desktop to the projector?
Could you suggest any projectors (preferably cheap) to use with chrome cast? Thanks!

Thanks for a nice tutorial. What about audio? there are no speakers in the projector.

Chromecast to hdmi in on receiver, hdmi cable from hdmi out on receiver to hdmi in on projector. Done.

I can do like you say: Chromecast to hdmi in on receiver, hdmi cable from hdmi out on receiver to hdmi in on projector. When get in touch with google support on chromcast they say it is not possible. Thanks!

what kind of receiver and projector do you have? I'm trying to get the newest Chromecast model to work on our Taotaole projector which does have an HDMI input but we can't get the Chromecast to work. No picture displays, it just shows the regular no signal.

What are you using to power the chromecast? If you're attempting to use a usb port, try using the wall adapter instead (not all usb ports are created equal). If that isn't it, test the hdmi input with another device.

Here's a nice little tutorial on wireless projector adapters:

I have one of these it works perfectly.

Installing CC on a projector (with HDMI) is nothing different then on a TV (with HDMI). It's more challenging connecting CC to a projector without HDMI. I hope there's a solution for this.

Nice Instructable,
I have my Chromecast installed on my big screen TV. I use my Chromecast dongle mostly for streaming NETFLIX on my TV.

I wonder if its possible to connect to bluetooth audio adapter because the speaker of any projector is just horrible.

It would be nice if you would have included audio setup steps. In order to have decent sound quality one must add some hdmi splitter etc and send sound to external audio device.
