How to Crochet a Wallet

This crochet wallet is easy enough for beginners and only takes an hour to make! It makes a great gift for friends and family.

Step 1: What You Will Need

-two different colors of worsted weight yarn

-scissors

-tapestry needle

-sewing needle

-4mm crochet hook

-button

-thread

-stitch marker(optional) or a piece of yarn will work too

Step 3: Basic Stitches to Know

Abbreviations

ch- chain

sl st- slip stitch

sc- single crochet

sc2tog- single crochet two together

Step 4: Getting Started

1. Make a slip knot and attach to your hook. Ch 15

2. Skip the first chain from your hook and do a sc into the second chain

3. Sc to end for a total of 15 sc

4. Pivot your work and do 15 sc into the other side of the ch (there will be two sc in the first sc you do in the other side of the chain because of the sc from the previous row)

5. Sl st into the first sc you did. Ch 1 and turn

6. Sc into each of the sc loops from the previous row for a total of 30 sc

7. Sl st into the first sc of that row. Ch 1 and turn (if you want you can insert the stitch marker into that ch 1 you just made)

8. *Sc all the way around and sl st into first sc you made from that row. Ch 1 and turn* Repeat from * * until piece measures 5.5cm

Note: Make sure you have 30 sc at the end of each row

Step 5: Starting the Decrease

1. Once your piece measures 5.5 cm, you want to sc into the first three st and then sc the next two stitches together. *Sc into the next three st and the sc2tog* Repeat from * * until end.

2. Sl st into first sc of the row. Ch 1 and turn

3. Do one sc into each of the stitches all the way around for a total of 24 st in the round, then sl st into first sc of the row. Ch 1 and turn

4. Now sc into the first four st and then sc the next two together. *Sc into the next four st and the sc2tog* Repeat from * * until end.

5. Sl st into first sc of the row. Ch 1 and turn. Sc into each of the stitches all the way around.

6. Sl st into the first sc of the row. Ch 1 and fasten off leaving a long enough tail (approx. 5 cm) to weave into the work later

Step 6: Making the Flower

1. Using your other colored yarn, make a sl knot and attach to your crochet hook. Ch 8

2. Go back to the very first ch and sl st together. Ch 1 and do 12 sc into the circle. Go back into the first sc and sl togther, making sure not to sl st into the very first sl st

3. Ch 5. Sk the next st and do a sc into the next one. *Ch 5. Sk the next st and sc into the next one* Repeat till end

4. Go back into the first sc and sl st together. Ch 6 and go into the third st (counting the st that the ch 6 is coming out of) and do a dc into that third st

5. *Ch 4 and sk the next 2 loops and dc into the next loop* Repeat till end. You should have 8 little loops once you are back to the start.

6. Sl st into the 3 st from the ch 6 we did at the start of the row. Ch 1 and do 7 sc into each one of the 8 loops.

7. Go back into first sc of the row and sl st together. Ch 4 and go back into that sc you just made sl st into and do another sl st. Ch 1 and fasten off.

Note: The ch 4 is the button hole, so depending on how big your button is, you might have to ch more/less.

Step 7: Sewing Everything Togther

1. Sew in any tails you might have from both pieces (flower and the pouch)

2. Line up the flower with the pouch, making sure the button hole is centered on one of the sides. Cut approx. 1 m of the yarn ,the same color that you used for the flower. I lined up the two pieces together so I would have one-third/one-fourth of the flower at the back (see picture/video for more details) and stitched it together using the 1 m of yarn and the tapestry needle.

4. Once the two pieces are stitched together, line up your button with the button hole and stitch it to the inside of the pouch with your needle and thread.
