How to DIY Paint Car Brake Calipers

Paint brake calipers is relatively easy as long there is someone to remove the car wheels for us. My Toyota Vios mileages hit another 10,000KM, with total mileages of 70,610KM. Our vehicles are recommended to change the engine oil, oil filter and wheels balancing with alignment for every 10,000KM.
I took this opportunity to paint the Toyota Vios brake calipers too! I went to the Chang Soon Tyre Service located in Relau to perform my routine car services, and perform the painting on the brake calipers.

There are 3 bottle of spray cans that I required to prepare before I went to the workshop for the brake calipers paint. The 3 bottles paint are white paint, red paint and lacquer that cost me RM18.

Step 1: Front Disk Brake Paint

1. Remove the 4 tires from the vehicle.
2. Clean the front brake calipers and drum brakes with water and soap to remove the grease then dry it with air blower
3. Since I had they to realigned my drum brake tension, so we are required to remove the drum from the drum brake (this step is not required if you just want to paint the drum)
4. The painting started with white color. The white paint is sprayed from the can evenly on the brake calipers. Several layer (at least 3 layers for each paint) of paint is required to assure the paint is evenly spread on the brake calipers with interval of 10 minutes. We used newspapers to cover the drive shaft to prevent it from overspray the paint to other compartment.

6. Once we are done with 3 layers of red paint, we shall proceed with another 3 layers of lacquer painting. The purpose of the lacquer is to outshine the red color paint on the brake calipers.

Step 2: Rear Drum Brake Paint

1. Next we move to paint the rear drum brake. The steps are same as painting the front brake calipers.
2. We started the painting with white color for 3 layers and then move to red color for another 3 layer, and lastly with lacquer for another 3 layers on the drum covers.

Step 3: Install Back the Wheels to the Car

yes coloured calipers ARE cool. when done safely.
if you are intending to paint your calipers then you should remove the brake pads and discs from the vehicle for starters. failure to do this could lead to you painting the discs and or pads, so next time you need to stop...

discs and pads off, you can then mask off the rubber deals and gaskets. again pretty important if you want the caliper to move once the paint is dry. then either paint in situe or remove the caliper and suspend it on a bungee cord and paint away. though not the insides as that's the bit that moves.

replace the caliper on the vehicle. look at your discs whilst they are off, if they are warped corroded or work replace, applying copper grease to the backs. might as well look at changing the pads, or liberally apply copper grease to the backs and refit with any retaining spring or clip of present.

I would remove the caliper before painting. It looks like you got some overspray on the rotor, brake line, and the rubber seals on the slider. This can be avoided with more masking and the removal of the caliper from the bracket. You don't need to remove it from the car, but removing it from the hub would make the job better, and more professional looking. If your car has a fair number of miles, and you're in need of some seal refreshening, that is the best time to paint the caliper as you'll have everything broken down.

Positive! Your suggestion definitely is way better than mine DIY car brake callipers paint. We are trying to minimised the effort to get the outlook that we dream off.

I agree, be sure to keep foreign substances off the rotors. the rotors should be checked for trueness since the surface can become distorted over time. unless you happen to have specialized tooling, you would have to have then serviced by a shop.
