Introduction: How to Fix BenQ JoyBee GP2 Projector White Dots and Dead Pixels

Do you have any DLP projectors?

Did you have the white dots or dead pixels on your DLP projector screen?

No worry. Today, I am creating an Instructables post to share you my experience of how to fix my BenQ Joybee GP2 projector dead pixels.

However, if your DLP projector still not have dead pixels problem, for now, you will need this post one day. Because the dead pixels on the screen is a common problem on all the DLP projectors. As one of the important parts on the DLP projector, it is a DLP chip. The chip is a small part of the projector which is including thousands of Micromirrors. When one or some of the Micromirrors damage because of the heat inside the projector, you will find some white dots or dead pixels on your screen. You will no longer to have a perfect image on the screen. Even more, the dead pixels will become more and more as times past.

How what should we do when we have this problem? Just follow our post and the video, you will get rid of it.

Tools we need:

1. Screw Drivers

2. DMD Chip / DLP Chip

3. Thermal Paste

Step 1: Unscrew the Projector Cover Screws

The first step is to take out the screws locked the projector case. In my BenQ Joybee GP2, there are only two screws only. If your projector is another model, there should be more screws.

Step 2: Unplug the Cables

There are some cables to connect the projector mainboard with the cooling fans, lens, and lights. Unplug them. But do make some notes to help you remember their location.

Step 3: Unscrew the Lens Set Screws

Unscrew the lens set screws and take the lens set out. The main part of DLP chip is assembled with the lens.

Step 4: Unscrew the DLP Part Screws

Here, we should find the DLP heat sink. For more BenQ Joybee GP2, it is designed besides the lens. For other models, it should in back of the lens. And we need to unscrew the 4 screws that locked the heat sink.

Step 5: Find the DMD Chip

After taking out the heatsink, we will find a small part. It is the main problem that caused the projector dead pixels or white dots on the screen. Now we have to replace a new one to fix it. Remember to use the thermal paste. The DMD Chip equals to your desktop CUP. It will help the DMD chip be cool and run for longer.

That is it. And put everything back, a new projector you will have.
