Easy DIY Play doh recipe without cream of tartar and no cooking. Make the best playdough creations with no cream of tartar and cook free that kids will love.  All you need:
4 cups of flour
11/2 cups salt
2 tbsp oil
1 cup water
food coloring

I just made this earlier today. My 2 year old son had never played with play dough before. I was looking for something fun to do using ingredirnt I had in the cupboard. We had so much fun. This recipe was so easy! I seen comments about it "not working" I had to add a little extra water then added too much and had to add a little flour. It all worked out in the end and took less than 10 minutes to make. I will use this recipe again!

If I half the recipe will it still be good? Cause 11/2 cups is alot.

Hey yes it will work. You can quarter it or even make it as small as it'll let you with grams milligrams teaspoons wherever you're from.

I make this with the same recipe but instead of food coloring i use 1-2 kool-aid packets to not only give it color but also a really good scent!

Best recipe ever. Super forgiving and fun to make. I did NOT want to cook dough and buy cream of tartar. I even used gel food coloring b/c I didn’t have regular food coloring drops. I only had olive oil on hand, so that’s what I used. Easy to tweak. So happy this was a success. Yay!!!

Use playdough alot in my setting. And do alot of baking the kids models as keepsakes. This is the best recipe I've found so far. Easily used for play and bakes so well (low and slow) for the keepsakes.

I use this for when I teach my students about the layers of the Earth! I made the playdough yellow, orange, red, and blue. It's a nice visual for the students to see!

I tried this recipe, and my initial thoughts were, "this recipe sucks, what am I doing wrong?" and then I figured it out. Do not use plain salt (which was my mistake) - make sure you use good 'ol IODIZED SALT. The "plain" salt doesn't dissolve well enough and sucks all the moisture out of the mixture (and leaves pieces behind because of the additional trace minerals that exist in plain salt - had to research to figure it out). All I had was a salty, dry mess. After that, the recipe was great! Thanks for sharing!

this is pretty much salt dough, cream of tartar is needed to make it have play dough texture, and to make it last for 6 months or longer.

I'm wanting to make blue play doh / clay. But instead of needing it to last for many uses, I want students to be able to take home a dried piece they make. Anyone know if this will air dry ok?

It should... Just leave it in a completely sealed plastic bag and it should dry. ;)

Nope! Just make sure there's not too much water or food coloring!
