Intro: How to Make a 3 Eyed Fish

Whether you are a big fan of Blinky from the Simpsons, you want to celebrate Earth Day in a sarcastic way, or you just like 3 eyed fish, this is the pattern for you.

This is my first time writing down a pattern. I usually crochet freestyle, so I hope this pattern makes sense. I took a lot of pics during the process to help explain. Let me know if you have any questions.

You will need: Orange yarn, white yarn, a tiny bit of black yarn, fiberfill, and a size F crochet hook. You also need to know the basics of crocheting. If you are just learning, check out some other instructables for details on how to make these stitches.
You need to know:

Sc = single crochet
Dc = double crochet
Sc2tog stitch 2 together. (Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.)

STEP 1: Make the Body

I started with a Magic Circle, as opposed to fitting 6sc into one ch.
Here is a good video on how to make a magic circle.
magic circle video.

For a stich marker, I use a piece of yarn in a different color, or sometimes a bobby pin, whichever is handy.

Rnd 1:Make a magic circle with  6 sc.  Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around
Rnd 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep from * around .
Rnd 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 7:
*2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts, rep from * around
Rnds 8-10: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 11; *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 5 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 12; Sc in each st around.
Rnd 13: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 14-16: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 17: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 18- 20: Sc in each st around.  (begin to stuff the body)
Rnd 21:  *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 22: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 23: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts, rep from * around
Rnd 24: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 25: Sc2tog around
Rnd 26: Sc in each st around.

Stuff the body so it is full. Squeeze the tail together a the end, and Sc across to close it. (see picture). It should take about 5 or 6 sc to close the piece. Let's call this Row 27. Now ch1, turn.

Row 28: Work 2 sc in each st, ch1, turn.
Row 29: Work 3 sc in next st, Work 2 sc in next st, Work 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 5 sts, ch1, turn
Row 30: sc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, work 2 sc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, work 2 sc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, work 2dc in each of last 4 sts. Fasten off and weave in end.

STEP 2: Make the Large Fin

Row 1; Ch 16, turn
Row 2: sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 3: dc in each of the next 9 st, sc in each of the next 4 st, ch 1, turn (this leaves 2 st untouched)
Row 4:  sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 5: dc in each of the next 7 st, sc in each of the next 3 st, ch 1, turn
Row 6: sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 7: dc in next st, work 2 dc in next st, dc in next st, sc in next 3 st, fasten off and weave in end.

STEP 3: Make the Small Fins

Make 2:

Row 1: Ch 6, turn
Row 2: sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 3:  sc in each st, ch 1, turn
Row 4: work 2 dc in each st, fasten off, and weave in ends.

STEP 4: Make the Eyes

Make 3 Eyes.

You'll want to do the magic circle again, like you did for the body.

Rnd 1:Make a magic circle with  6 sc.  Place marker in first st for beg of rnd; move marker up as each rnd is completed.
Rnd 2: Work 2 sc in each st around
rnd 3: Sc in each st around.
rnd 4: Sc2tog around. Fasten off.

Use black yarn to make a french knot in each eye for  the pupil.

STEP 5: Sew the Fish Together

Now it's time to sew all the parts onto the fish. I started with the large fin, trying to make sure it went straight. Next I sewed on the smaller fins, making sure they were equally spaced.

Now, to sew on the eyes, first I wanted to shape the fish, so he has a sort of shelf for his eyes to rest on. Take the orange yarn, go up through the bottom, out the top, across the top, back down and out the bottom near the entrance. Tie the yarn tight, to give the fish some shape. Weave in the ends. Look at the pictures for reference.

Now sew the eyes on. Start with the center, so they are even. Weave in ends.

STEP 6: Youre Done!

Now sit back and admire your work.
I like to think that you can make anything, you just have to break up the object into shapes that you can make, then add the details.

Hope you enjoy!

ahhhhhhh! aliens are invading look! jk it is really good
It's a knitted character - you should enter the K - Factor !
The "K Factor" was a version Simon Cowell's The  "X Factor" - only with knitted characters instead of people. It was on a program called "Harry Hills TV Burp" in the UK.

Search for Harry Hill + K factor. Harry Hill is stranger  than he looks !
It's a winner (or should be).
But don't take my word for it, let's ask an actor dressed as Charles Darwin...

L
I wouldn't mind having a third eye, would you?
I suppose if they found an elephant they'd blame his ridculous nose on the nuclear boogie man.
